A Prayer for Deliverance from Oppression
"And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive." - Exodus 1:22

O Sovereign Lord, our hearts turn to You as we reflect on the weighty words contained in Exodus 1:22, where we read, "And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive." This verse echoes through the corridors of history, reminding us of great oppression, the struggle for life, and the profound impact of systemic evil against the innocent.
Father, we come before You, acknowledging the harsh truths of this world. Even as Pharaoh issued cruel commands against the Hebrew people, we see similar commands in our time—from laws that protect the powerful while neglecting the vulnerable, to acts of violence that seek to extinguish hope. The image of innocent lives, ordained for greatness, being cast into the river strikes a deep chord in our souls. We cry out to You for mercy—for those who are suffering still today under the hand of tyranny or neglect.
Lord of Justice, we pray for the children, the boys and girls in nations around the world who face dangers that threaten their very existence. May Your hand protect each precious soul. You understand the anguish of parents who fear for their offspring’s safety. Just as You heard the cries of Israel as they languished under Pharaoh's oppression, we ask that You hear our cries for those who are oppressed today. Let their pleas ascend to You like incense.
We intercede for the leaders and governments that perpetuate violence and injustice. We pray that You would open their eyes to the light of compassion and kindness. Inspire them to implement policies that uphold life and dignity for every child. Let their hearts break for what breaks Yours, O God. Instill in them a sense of accountability and urgency to create a world where every son and daughter is cherished and protected.
In these dark shadows, Lord, we also celebrate Your mercy and redemptive power. You are a God who chooses not to forget His people. Even amidst the cries of despair, You are scheming for our good. For just as Pharaoh's decree sought to suppress Your plan, we are reminded that You are ultimately sovereign over all and bring forth deliverance.
O God of Miracles, as we ponder on Your deliverance, we ask that You raise up leaders like Moses, who will stand against oppression with courage and determination. May their voices ring clear in the midst of chaos, proclaiming liberty and justice. Prepare their hearts, fortify their spirits, and grant them wisdom to lead others to You—the ultimate source of hope and healing.
Lord, we thank You that though we may be surrounded by despair, we can find strength in our prayers. Help us to become advocates for those who cannot advocate for themselves—those who are marginalized, oppressed, or in danger. Lead us to be Your hands and feet in this world, standing together against injustice, as we proclaim freedom over the captives.
In the same breath, we also ask for spiritual awakening. The heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he knew not the consequences of his actions. We pray that You would soften the hearts of leaders, that they may turn away from practices that promote violence and toward paths that endorse peace, love, and equality.
Most importantly, may Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. As we call upon You, we rest in the assurance that You will work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28). Together, we trust in Your providence and grace, knowing that though we face trials, our Savior is a greater King than any Pharaoh could ever be. May we find our refuge in You, Lord, the One who fights for the oppressed and raises the downtrodden.
We pray this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
