In the New Testament, Jesus admonishes us in Matthew 6:34, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." We are encouraged not to be burdened by fear of what lies ahead because God is intimate with our paths and has ordained every step. This sense of entrapment is not foreign to many of us. Take a moment to consider the emotional pits we create through sin, regret, or poor choices. Just as Moab was to face dire consequences, our spiritual lives can suffer if we allow ourselves to be ensnared in behaviors and thoughts that separate us from God’s grace.

The "snare" implies entrapment; it suggests being caught in a web of our own making, unable to escape. The enemy lies in wait, using deceitful tactics to ensnare us with lies that ignite our fears. We think of the moments we fall into traps of bitterness, resentment, or even materialism—all distractions that entangle us. 1 Peter 5:8 reminds us to be vigilant, as the adversary prowls like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. This scripture encourages us to stay alert in our spiritual journey, understanding that we must actively participate in resisting fear and choosing faith instead.

Moreover, the warning issued to Moab should invoke a sense of urgency within our hearts to seek the Lord's refuge and deliverance. Instead of falling into fear, we can enter into God’s peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). He is our stronghold in times of trouble (Psalm 9:9). God does not desire for us to dwell in fear; rather, He longs for us to seek His help and trust Him for our outcomes.
