Dear Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, I am deeply moved by the moment captured in 1 Chronicles 21:18, where Your angel commanded Gad to convey a message to David, a call to worship, a summons to build an altar on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. In this sacred encounter, I see Your hand guiding, instructing, and beckoning us to draw near to You. I thank You for Your constant communication, even when we stray from the path of righteousness. Just as David responded to the divine instruction, I, too, wish to respond to You with a heart full of reverence and a spirit ready to act.

Lord, may I be open to the voice of Your messenger in my life, for I know that, like David, I have my own struggles, my own choices to make. In the verses surrounding this one, we see a tumultuous moment in David's reign, a time of sin where pride led to anguish and the resulting judgment. Yet, in this moment of crisis, You provided a way out, an opportunity for restoration through the act of worship. I ask for clarity in my own chaos—help me to recognize when Your voice calls me to the altar and when I need to lay my burdens down before You.

With this understanding, I approach You, Almighty God, seeking to build an altar in my heart. As David later showed through his obedience, may I desire to bring You my best—my time, my energy, and my resources. In a world where distractions are rampant, help me keep my focus on You. May my personal altar be a sacred place of sacrifice, where I lay down my pride, my desires, my fears, and my insecurities. Teach me that true worship requires not just the giving of offerings but the surrender of myself fully into Your loving arms.

I reflect on Ornan's threshing floor, a place of separation and preparation, where grain is cleansed and refined. Help me to always remember that the altars in my life ought to be places of purification, where You can divinely address all that is unholy within me and transform it for Your glory. Purify my heart, Lord, and teach me to see the value of what I present to You. I want to offer You not just my leftovers but the first and best of my life’s harvest.

Heavenly Father, as I consider the command given to David, I recognize the importance of obedience in worship. The act of setting up an altar is not just a physical action, but a testament of faith and a declaration of Your Lordship over my life. I pray for a spirit that is quick to obey, willing to follow wherever You lead, no matter the cost. Grant me the courage to make sacrifices that glorify Your name, realizing that there is nothing too great that I would not offer in devotion to You.

Allow this prayer to echo in my heart, reminding me daily of my purpose to worship, serve, and honor You above all else. Inspire me to be proactive in establishing altars of worship in my home, in my community, and in my own heart. Let my life be a testament to Your goodness, a living altar that bears witness to Your faithfulness and mercy.

In this journey of faith, Lord, remind me to seek out the spaces where I can encounter You. Help me to recognize the Ornan’s in my life—those moments and places where I can lay my offerings before You. May I embrace sacrificial worship as a means of connecting with Your divine will.

Thank You, Father, for the precious gift of Your presence. I am grateful for this call to build an altar unto You—may I respond willingly, knowing that in every sacrifice, there is the promise of Your grace. I ask that You continue to lead me closer to You.
