A Prayer for Divine Stewardship and Generosity
"The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the LORD." - 1 Chronicles 26:22

Heavenly Father,
As we gather in humility and gratitude, we come before Your throne, reverently acknowledging Your sovereignty over all creation. You are the Almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and we recognize that everything we possess is a gift from You. We reflect on the verse from 1 Chronicles 26:22, which speaks about the sons of Jehieli, Zetham and Joel, who were appointed over the treasures of the house of the LORD. Lord, this verse draws us into the understanding of stewardship, responsibility, and reverence for the treasures that belong to You.
Father, just as Zetham and Joel were entrusted with the treasures of Your house, we understand that You have entrusted each of us with our own treasures—our time, our talents, our resources, and our love. We ask for Your wisdom and guidance in how we manage these gifts. Help us to recognize that our resources are not our own but are to be used for Your glory and to further Your kingdom here on earth. Teach us the importance of generosity and sharing with those around us, especially with those who are in need.
Lord, we thank You for the examples set forth in Your word. Zetham and Joel had a significant role in serving the temple and managing the wealth dedicated to You. As we reflect on their commitment and diligence, we pray that You would instill in us a similar passion and dedication to serve in whatever capacity You have called us to. Help us to be faithful stewards of what You have given us, just as they were faithful over the treasures of the house of the LORD.
May we be ever-conscious that our earthly possessions do not define us, but rather, it is our heart’s attitude towards giving and serving that reflects our faith in You. Just as Zetham and Joel were leaders, raise up leaders from among us who will commit their lives to serve Your people and manage the resources of Your church wisely. We pray for unity among the servants in our communities, churches, and families, that together we may fulfill the call to steward the gifts entrusted to us.
Dear Lord, help us to approach our stewardship with a heart of worship. May our giving be a form of worship that honors You. We pray against the spirit of greed and selfishness that can easily creep into our lives, leading us to cling tightly to what we have, rather than release it in faith. Teach us the beauty of selflessness, that we might find joy in giving, just as You so generously give to us.
Father God, we also intercede for those who manage the resources within our church and community. Guide our leaders, instilling in them the wisdom and discernment to handle the financial and material treasures with integrity and responsibility. May their decisions be aligned with Your will, impacting our communities for Your Kingdom’s purposes.
As we contemplate the treasures of the house of the LORD, bring to mind a greater understanding of Your spiritual riches. Let us not only focus on earthly treasures but also seek to lay up treasures in heaven through acts of kindness, sharing the gospel, and loving our neighbors as ourselves. Inspire us to invest in lives, knowing that the greatest treasures are those eternal ones that cannot be stolen or destroyed.
Thank You, Lord, for the example of Zetham and Joel and their commitment to Your work. May their legacy encourage us to live lives of faithfulness in every area. We commit ourselves to You and ask that our hearts be aligned with Your purposes in all that we do. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.
