A Prayer of Expansion and Protection: Following the Example of Jabez
"And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested." - 1 Chronicles 4:10

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today, inspired by the humble yet profound prayer of Jabez, as recorded in 1 Chronicles 4:10. "And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested." Lord, I stand in awe of Jabez's boldness, his faith, and his unwavering trust in You. In this moment, I seek to embody that same spirit of inquiry and reliance as I lay my requests before You.
First and foremost, dear God, I ask You to bless me indeed. May Your blessings flow into my life in abundance. Let Your favor surround me like a shield and pour out into every corner of my existence. I seek not only the material blessings that You can provide but also the spiritual, emotional, and relational blessings that will enrich my life and deepen my connection with You and others. In my seeking, I remember the words of James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” I acknowledge that all my needs, desires, and aspirations come from You, the source of all goodness.
As You bless me, Lord, I also humbly ask that You would enlarge my coast. Help me to stretch beyond my current limitations, both personally and spiritually. Expand my capacity to receive all that You have for me, and let my heart grow wider to embrace Your mission for my life. May I not confine You to my current understanding or circumstances, but rather may I open myself to the limitless possibilities that come with faith in You. Teach me to dream bigger, and help me to seek opportunities to impact the world around me in Your name. I want to be a vessel through which Your love and grace can flood the lives of those I encounter.
Furthermore, I cry out to You, Father, that Thine hand might be with me. In all my endeavors, may I feel Your guiding presence, instilling confidence in my heart and clarity in my mind. With Your hand upon me, I will have the courage to step into new territories and face the challenges that come my way. I trust in the promise that You will never leave me nor forsake me, and I pray that Your guidance will lead me on paths of righteousness. Help me to remember that Your divine hand is not only there to lead but also to strengthen and sustain me through trials and tribulations.
Lord, I also lift up the request of Jabez for protection from evil. I beseech You to keep me from any harm and to shield me from temptations that may lead me astray. I understand that the enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. I pray for a hedge of protection around my heart, my mind, and all that concerns me. Let Your truth be my shield and Your spirit my sword. Grant me discernment to recognize the snares set before me and give me the strength to resist them, ensuring that they do not grieve me.
Finally, I express my heartfelt gratitude for answering my prayer. Like Jabez, I trust in Your goodness and mercy, knowing that You are faithful to grant that which I have requested. Thank You for loving me deeply and intricately crafting my life’s journey.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
