A Prayer for Divine Protection and Deliverance
"¶ And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem:" - 1 Kings 14:25

Heavenly Father,
As we come before You today, we are reminded of the challenges that Your people have faced throughout history. In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, it is recorded that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, a moment that reflects the turmoil and strife that can invade even the most sacred places. Just as the people of Israel faced the formidable threat of their enemies, so too do we confront battles in our lives, whether they be physical, emotional, or spiritual.
Lord, we acknowledge that there are times when we feel overwhelmed, when the weight of the world seems to bear down upon us, and we become weary in our hearts and minds. In these moments, like the people of Jerusalem, we turn our eyes to You, the Maker of heaven and earth. You are our fortress, our refuge, and our strong tower. As we reflect on the trials faced by King Rehoboam and the nation he ruled, let us learn from their experiences, recognizing the importance of turning to You in times of distress.
Father, just as Shishak marched against Jerusalem, we also face enemies that threaten our peace. These may come in the form of illness, financial struggles, familial strife, or even the gnawing presence of anxiety and fear. Lord, we pray for strength and courage in facing these adversities, for we know that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). May we never lose sight of Your sovereignty and Your ability to protect and deliver us from all that seeks to destroy our peace.
We ask for the wisdom that King Rehoboam needed, the discernment to seek Your face and guidance in every decision that lies ahead. Father, please forgive us for the times we have relied on our own understanding, just as Rehoboam did in his early reign. Help us to seek counsel from You above all else and to turn our hearts to You, knowing that it is through Your guidance that we will navigate the storms that arise.
Lord, we seek Your strength, knowing that we cannot endure these trials alone. Teach us to put on the whole armor of God, that we may stand against the wiles of the enemy (Ephesians 6:11). Help us to remain steadfast, rooted in Your Word, and unwavering in our faith, even when we feel like the walls are closing in around us.
We pray for the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. In those moments of fear and uncertainty, may we remember the truth of Your promises and the countless times You have provided for Your people. Let our history be one that echoes Your faithfulness through generations, and may we share our testimonies of deliverance with those around us.
As we look forward, Lord, let us also pray for those who are still held captive by their struggles. We intercede for families, communities, and nations facing their own Shishaks, asking that You will intervene, bringing comfort and healing where chaos reigns. Strengthen our resolve to be agents of Your grace and peace, willing to help those in need and to share the hope that is found in You alone.
In the face of our own trials, may we stand firm in faith, remembering that although an enemy may come against us, You are our shield and our deliverer. Thank You for Your everlasting presence and the promise that You will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus, who reigns forever. Amen.
