A Prayer for Divine Inclination of the Heart
"That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers." - 1 Kings 8:58

O Sovereign Lord, our hearts are bowed before You this day, as we come seeking Your divine presence and guidance. We stand on the promises of Your Word, particularly 1 Kings 8:58, which declares, "That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers." Lord, we acknowledge that it is only by Your grace and mercy that our hearts can be turned towards You and aligned with Your divine will.
Heavenly Father, in a world full of distractions and influences that pull our hearts in countless directions, we earnestly ask that You incline our hearts unto You. We prayerfully lay before You the burdens and challenges that weigh us down, the anxieties that cloud our minds, and the desires that could lead us astray from Your path. Help us, blessed Lord, to recognize those things that divert our attention from walking according to Your ways. Let our souls be consistently directed towards You, and may our hearts beat in unison with Your heartbeat.
We humbly request, O God, that in this act of inclining our hearts, You not only draw us closer to You, but also strengthen our resolve to walk in all Your ways. You are the way, the truth, and the life, and we know that to walk in Your ways is to experience true fulfillment and purpose. Lead us gently, but firmly, down the path of righteousness. Your Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). Illuminate our journey, so that in every step we take, we may be assured that we are following the course You desire for us.
As we endeavor to walk in Your ways, Lord, instill in us a deep-seated desire to keep Your commandments. Let Your commandments not be a burden upon our shoulders, but rather a delight in our hearts. We long to understand each commandment, each statute, and each judgment that You have set forth. Teach us, O Lord, to cherish them, to meditate upon them day and night, and to integrate them into the very fabric of our lives. As we abide in Your Word, may our obedience reflect our love for You, for truly, if we love You, we will keep Your commandments (John 14:15).
In these trying times, it is all too easy to waver in our commitment to Your statutes, but we plead for Your strength. Empower us by Your Holy Spirit to remain steadfast in our faith, to hold fast to the beautiful teachings handed down to us by our fathers in faith, and to recognize the testimonies that witness to Your faithfulness over generations. May we not only walk in the footsteps of those who have walked before us, but also inspire those who are to follow after us, demonstrating a life fully surrendered to Your will.
Almighty God, it is our deepest prayer that as we seek to align our hearts with Yours, our lives may become a testament of Your grace. May the fruits of the Spirit be evident in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Use us as vessels of Your love and instruments of Your peace, so that others may witness the transformation You bring when hearts are inclined towards You.
Lord, keep us ever mindful of our calling to honor You with our whole being. May Your desires become our desires, and may we find joy in living according to Your ways. With our hearts inclined to You, we commit ourselves anew to walk closely with You, to keep Your commandments and to fulfill the purpose You have ordained for us.
In Jesus’ precious name, we pray, trusting in Your unfailing love and grace. Amen.
