As I meditate on the words of 2 Chronicles 11:21, "And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters)," I seek to understand the depth of love and loyalty that is illustrated in this passage, while recognizing the challenges that accompany such affections.

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that love is a powerful force, yet it can also lead to complications and turmoil. Rehoboam’s preference for Maachah points to a special connection, but it also reminds me that even in the pursuit of love, we are called to seek Your wisdom. Guide me, O Lord, to love in a way that honors You and reflects Your intentions for relationships. May my affections be grounded in truth, integrity, and fidelity.

Lord, I pray that You grant me discernment as I navigate the relationships in my life. May I never idolize love above my relationship with You, for Your love is perfect, and only through You can I truly learn how to love others.
