A Prayer for Shielding and Strength in Leadership
"Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king's house." - 2 Chronicles 12:10

Heavenly Father,
We come before You in humble reverence, acknowledging Your greatness and sovereignty over all the earth. Your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105), guiding us through the trials and tribulations of life. Lord, as we reflect on the words of 2 Chronicles 12:10, which says, "Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king's house," we seek wisdom and understanding to glean the lessons You have for us in this passage.
Gracious God, we recognize the significance of Rehoboam’s actions, and we ponder deeply the choices we make in our own lives and leadership. Just as Rehoboam replaced the shields of gold, which once represented the glory of your protection over Israel, with those of brass, we too may sometimes settle for less than Your best in our decisions, our commitments, and our lives. We confess times when we have chosen superficial solutions instead of seeking Your divine guidance, leading to weakened defenses against the trials that come our way.
Lord, grant us discernment to understand the difference between the treasures of the world and the priceless gifts of Your Spirit. Help us to see that while brass may offer a semblance of security, it is only through reliance on You that we can find true strength and protection. May we not waver in our confidence in Your abilities, but always look to You as our ultimate source of strength.
Father, just as Rehoboam committed these brass shields to the hands of his guards, we too have leaders and guardians in our lives—the authorities, mentors, and spiritual guides You have placed over us. Bless them with wisdom, courage, and integrity. May they lead us not with their own understanding but with Yours, ensuring that we are shielded by a genuine faith in You.
We pray for the leaders of our communities, our nations, and our churches. Equip them with the discernment to choose the right paths and to champion truth, justice, and righteousness. Lord, prohibit them from taking shortcuts, from replacing Your divine purpose with temporary and inadequate solutions.
As we reflect on the guards who were entrusted with protecting the entrance of the king's house, let us also ponder the guardianship we have in our lives. Lord, raise up faithful guards around us—those who stand vigilant at the gates of our hearts, who will challenge us when we stray and guide us back to the paths that lead to You. Help us to create a community that encourages one another to seek truth and integrity, rather than complacency and superficiality.
May we also examine the gates we allow to remain open in our lives. What influences are we letting in, and how are they affecting our walk with You? Show us the areas where we may have allowed brass shields to replace the golden ones, and grant us the courage to remove those barriers that keep us from experiencing the fullness of Your glory.
Lord, we ask for Your divine protection over us—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Cover us with Your armor, Lord, as we engage in the battle against the forces that seek to harm us. Help us uphold the values of faith, hope, and love. Let our shields be held high, shining brightly with the glory of Your truth.
In all things, may we remember that it is not our own strength that sustains us, but Your grace that upholds us. Thank You for being our ultimate defender, our refuge, and our stronghold. We praise You for the promises found in Your word and trust that You will always be our shield and very present help in times of trouble.
In the beautiful name of Jesus, we pray,
Amen.
