A Prayer for Discernment and Wisdom in Truth

"If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:" - 2 John 1:10

"If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:" - 2 John 1:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

I come before You today with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength as I navigate the complexities of life and truth. Your Word, as conveyed in 2 John 1:10, resonates deeply within me: *"If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed."* Lord, in a world that is filled with diverse teachings and doctrines, I ask for the wisdom to discern between truth and falsehood. May I always hold close to the teachings of Christ, remembering that they are the foundation of my faith.

Father, You know the challenges we face when confronted by those who may not align with Your teachings. It can be tempting to welcome everyone with open arms, to offer hospitality and kindness. But Your Word reveals the importance of protecting the purity of our faith and guarding our hearts from influences that contradict Your truth.

Grant me the discernment to recognize when a doctrine diverges from Your Word. Help me to be vigilant and aware, standing firm in my faith without wavering. Let me not be swayed by persuasive arguments or charming personalities that might lead me astray. Teach me to evaluate every message against the truth of Scripture, and to understand that not all paths lead to You, O Lord.

As I interact with others, whether in person or through the vast channels of communication available today, help me to hold true to my beliefs while exhibiting grace and love. I pray that I might approach those who speak contrary to Your Word with a gentle spirit, expressing my convictions without hostility or judgment. Let the love of Christ shine through my words and actions, even as I stand firm against any teaching that misrepresents You.

Lord, give me the courage to say no when necessary. Help me to recognize that inviting false doctrine into my life or home, even out of a desire to be gracious, can have dire consequences. Remind me that saying no is not a reflection of unkindness, but an act of obedience to Your Word. Teach me to draw clear lines, and to protect the sanctity of my faith and the faith of those around me.

I also pray for those who are currently entangled in teachings that do not honor You. Father, I ask that You open their eyes to the truth. May they encounter the fullness of Your Word and the light of Your Spirit. Help me to be a voice of truth in their lives, should the opportunity arise, sharing with them the hope and clarity that come from knowing You intimately.

Help me to prioritize my time and spaces wisely. May my home be a sanctuary of faith, filled with the love and truth of Jesus Christ. Teach me to be intentional about who I invite into my life and my heart. I seek Your presence to fill my house, making it a place where Your teachings can flourish and where Your glory can be visibly manifested.

And Lord, where my heart is tempted to compromise, remind me of the call to holiness and the importance of standing firm in my beliefs. May I not offer empty words of blessing to those that contradict Your teachings, but rather uphold a testament of faith that shines brightly in a world yearning for truth.

In all things, I trust in Your sovereign plan and Your ability to lead me in Your truth. May I always seek to glorify You in my decisions, and may my life reflect the steadfastness of Your Word.

In the powerful name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen.
