A Prayer of Gratitude and Humility
"And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: and Joab said, To day thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant." - 2 Samuel 14:22

Heavenly Father,
In the quietness of this moment, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude and humility, reflecting on the words of 2 Samuel 14:22. "And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: and Joab said, To day thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant." Lord, as Joab recognized the grace bestowed upon him by King David, I too recognize the boundless grace that You have poured into my life.
I thank You, O King of kings, for the grace that covers my sins, for the compassion that beckons me even in my failures, and for the mercy that always triumphs over judgment. Just as Joab bowed before King David in deep appreciation, I bow my spirit before You, acknowledging Your sovereignty over every aspect of my life. Teach me, Lord, to live in a manner that demonstrates my recognition of Your grace.
Father, grant me a heart that is ever thankful. In a world where it can be so easy to overlook Your countless blessings, remind me to always acknowledge the good things that come from Your hands. Help me to cultivate an attitude of gratitude, not only in the moments when my requests are fulfilled, but also when I am called to wait. May gratitude flow from my heart in both abundance and lack because I recognize that every circumstance is used by You for my growth and Your glory.
Lord, just as Joab was grateful for the favor of his king, I too am grateful for the favor You show me daily. Your grace is sufficient for me, and Your strength is made perfect in my weakness. Help me to understand the depths of Your grace, how it covers my shortcomings and illuminates my path. Let my life reflect Your grace to others, so that I may be a vessel of Your love and compassion.
In moments when I feel unworthy or undeserving of your grace, remind me of the truth that Your love is not based on my performance but on Your character. You are a faithful God, and Your promises are true. Even when I stumble, Your grace abounds, and Your presence never leaves me. Help me to draw nearer to You, to cling to Your promises, and to deepen my understanding of what it means to live under Your grace.
I confess, O Lord, that there are times when I forget to seek Your face, to acknowledge Your hand in my life, or to express my heartfelt thanks. Forgive me for these moments of forgetfulness and help me to actively choose gratitude each day. Develop within me a spirit that sees the blessings in the mundane and finds joy in every circumstance.
May my life be a testament to Your grace, and may I inspire others to seek You, just as Joab recognized the grace of his king and acknowledged it publicly. Let my words and actions convey a heart that is overwhelmed with thankfulness. Let me never take for granted the grace you give, nor the people who surround me — all blessings from You.
Finally, Lord, may I learn to bow in humility, just as Joab did, recognizing that I am Your servant and You are my King. May my prayers align with Your will, and may the requests I bring before You be infused with love and gratitude. Thank You for hearing me, for listening to my requests, and for knowing my heart.
In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
