Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, my heart is humbled and filled with gratitude. I reflect upon the words spoken in 2 Samuel 19:36, where it is written: "Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?" This profound statement echoes the sentiment of service and loyalty, and reminds me of the beauty of serving those whom You have placed in authority over me.

Lord, You have called me to be a servant in Your image, and I dedicate this prayer to express my desire to serve without expectation. Just like the servant who accompanied King David, I too wish to walk beside those whom You have appointed in my life – whether they be leaders in my community, mentors, friends, or family. Help me to understand the importance of offering my support and encouragement, regardless of the recognition I may or may not receive.

Father, instill within me a spirit of humility as I carry out my duties. Let me carry the weight of my responsibilities with grace, understanding that true service is often done quietly and without the desire for accolades. Knowing that even a small act of kindness can have a significant impact, I pray that You will use me in ways that I cannot even begin to imagine.

In the words of this verse, I am reminded not only of the privilege it is to serve but also of the attitude with which I serve. Why should I expect anything in return when I offer my heart and hands in service to others? Teach me, Lord, to give freely, reflecting the attitude of the servant who asks, 'why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?' Help me to check my motives and ensure that I act from a place of pure love and selflessness.

Lord, as I journey through my life, let my actions glorify You. Let every step I take over the proverbial Jordan be a testament to my commitment to serve You by serving those around me. Whether my journey is long or short, may it be impactful and reflective of Your love. I also pray for those who lead me, that they may recognize the importance of this service and lead with wisdom, integrity, and care. May they reward acts of service and kindness, not to satisfy their own ego, but to encourage a spirit of community and shared mission.

As I cross the river of trials and tribulations, grant me fortitude and resilience. May I find joy in the act of serving, regardless of whether I receive accolades or simply remain in the background. Teach me, Lord, that the reward of serving others often lies in the experience itself and the unconditional love we can cultivate through our actions.

Above all, let my life be a reflection of Your love – a love that knows no bounds and expects nothing in return. May I always remember that every act of service, great or small, is a thread woven into the fabric of Your kingdom. Help me to embrace this truth and live it out loud in my everyday life.
