A Prayer for Cleansing and Renewal
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16

O Lord God Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the One who knows our hearts and sees our deepest struggles, we come before You today with hearts yearning for Your grace and forgiveness. As I meditate on the words of Acts 22:16, ‘And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord,’ I am reminded of the urgent call to turn to You, to seek Your cleansing power, and to live a life transformed by Your love.
Father, I reflect on the question posed in this verse, ‘Why tarriest thou?’ In moments of my life when I have hesitated to come to You, I ask for Your forgiveness. I acknowledge the times I allowed fear, doubt, or shame to hold me back from seeking You wholeheartedly. I understand now that to tarry is to waste precious time that could be spent in communion with You, finding freedom from my burdens and receiving the hope that only You can provide.
Lord, teach me to arise from my complacency and to embrace the new life that Your Word promises. Help me to take that first step in faith, to rise up from where I am, and to turn my eyes towards You – the author and perfecter of my faith. I pray for courage to let go of the chains that bind me: the past mistakes, the unkind words, and the actions that have not aligned with Your will.
As I consider the significance of baptism, Lord, I recognize it is a powerful symbol of purification and renewal. I yearn to be baptized not only in water but in Your Spirit, to be immersed in Your love, and to be washed clean of all my sins. I surrender every heavy weight I’ve been carrying – my guilt, my regrets, and my fears – into Your capable hands. Let the waters of Your mercy wash over me, washing away the stains of my transgressions, and making me a new creation in Christ.
Father God, I also acknowledge the profound importance of calling on Your name. In times of despair, I sometimes forget how powerful it is to cry out to You. Guide me in understanding that the name of Jesus carries authority, healing, and saving grace. When I call upon Your name, Lord, I am not merely speaking but inviting Your presence into my life; I am declaring my dependence on You. I pray that Your name will be my refuge, my strength, and my salvation.
As I strive to cultivate a deeper relationship with You, I pray for the faith to believe in Your promises, that You are ever-present and eager to accept me with open arms. Lord, as I arise and seek to be baptized anew each day in Your goodness, refresh my soul. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, that I may emit Your light in a world that is often shrouded in darkness.
May I become a vessel of Your mercy, extending the grace I have received to those around me. Help me be a beacon of hope for those who feel lost, sharing with them the transformative power of calling on Your name.
O Lord, let my life be a testimony of Your goodness and faithfulness. May my journey of faith reflect the resurrection power of Jesus, who overcame sin and death. Help me to rise every morning, renewed in spirit, trusting in Your perfect plan for my life.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
