A Prayer for Healing and Compassion
"And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him." - Acts 28:8

O Heavenly Father, Creator of the universe, I come before You in humble reverence, acknowledging Your great mercy and power. As I reflect upon the words found in Acts 28:8, which recount the miraculous healing wrought through the hands of Paul, I am reminded of Your boundless love and compassion for all who suffer. The scripture says, ‘And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.’
Lord, just as Paul entered into the home of Publius and laid hands upon him, I long to enter into Your presence with a heart open to serve, to love, and to heal. I ask You, Lord, for the same spirit of compassion that permeated the actions of Paul. Enable me to see the hurting and the sick not with eyes of indifference but through eyes that recognize their need for care, empathy, and divine healing.
Father, I pray specifically for those in my community, my family, and my circle of friends who are suffering from ailments—whether they be physical, emotional, or spiritual. Like the father of Publius, many lay sick, afflicted by their condition and yearning for relief. Lord, reach Your hand into their lives and bring them comfort. I ask You to be the source of their healing, the guiding light that leads them toward recovery and renewed strength.
As I pray for their healing, let Your Spirit fill them with hope and reassurance. Remind them that You are with them, that they are not alone in their struggles. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. I pray for a miraculous touch upon each individual who bears the weight of illness or burden. Cover them with Your mercy; make them whole again in spirit, soul, and body, just as You did through Paul’s prayer and touch.
Lord Jesus, You walked upon this earth healing the sick, raising the dead, and restoring the broken-hearted. You showed us what it means to embody kindness and to be a vessel of Your healing grace. Help me, Lord, to emulate that kindness in my own life. Put in my heart a fierce love for those who are suffering, and ignite in me a passion to pray fervently and to act generously. Teach me to approach the sick and suffering not with fear or hesitance, but with an eagerness to be an instrument of Your peace.
As Paul laid hands on Publius and prayed, I pray that You will guide our hands to do the same—whether through prayer, through kind words, through acts of service, or through professional abilities. May my hands be Your hands, extending grace and healing to those around me.
As I ask this of You, Father, I also pray for myself. Strengthen my faith, increase my sensitivity to the needs of others, and grant me wisdom to know how best to serve. Allow me to see the lost and the sick through Your eyes, not through the lens of judgement or indifference. Let my heart be burdened with the compassion that moves me to action—much like Paul who entered in with purpose and intention to heal.
In a world that often turns a blind eye to suffering, may I be a beacon of Your light, a testament to Your goodness and mercy. And ultimately, may all the glory be unto You, the Great Physician, for not only do You heal our bodies, but You also heal our spirits, giving us hope and a future. Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer. I trust in Your perfect plan and timing. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray, Amen.
