A Prayer for the Empowering of the Holy Spirit
"Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost." - Acts 8:19

O Heavenly Father, Creator of all things and Giver of every good and perfect gift, I come before You today with a heart full of reverence and longing. In the depths of my soul, I echo the words of Simon the sorcerer, who in Acts 8:19 desired that power to impart the Holy Ghost, saying, "Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost" (KJV). Lord, I recognize the incredible importance of this gift. I understand that without the Holy Spirit, I am but a shell, devoid of Your life-giving breath. Therefore, I beseech You to grant me the power to manifest Your Spirit in my life and those around me.
Lord, I long to experience the fullness of Your power within me. Just as the early disciples boldly proclaimed Your Word and laid hands on the sick, seeing them healed and filled with the Holy Ghost, I ask for that same fervor and empowerment. I pray that You would fill me to overflowing with Your Holy Spirit, that I might effectively be Your vessel in this world, bringing life where there is death, hope where there is despair, and joy where there is sorrow.
As I seek to lay my hands upon others, I reflect on the responsibility that comes with such a sacred act. Help me, O Lord, to provide spiritual nourishment and healing to those who are hurting. Fill my heart with compassion that mirrors the love of Christ, so that when I touch others, it is not just a physical act, but a transfer of Your divine presence and power. Grant me the discernment to recognize who among us desperately needs Your touch, and give me the courage to act.
Father, I also pray for a deeper understanding of Your Holy Spirit’s workings. Teach me to be sensitive to Your leading, so that I might not move in my own strength but be guided by Your Spirit in all things. Let the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance—manifest in my life as evidence of Your presence within. I desire that the glow of Your grace shines through me, attracting those who are lost and weary to Your kingdom.
Lord, I confess that at times I have hesitated to step out in faith, doubting my ability to affect change. I pray for forgiveness for these moments of weakness. Instill in me a boldness that comes only from You, reminding me that it is not by my power or might, but by Your Spirit. Help me to remember this truth as I endeavor to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and lay hands on those who need a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit.
As I reflect on the mission You have given us, I am reminded that it is not just for a select few, but for all believers. I pray for a mighty revival among the Body of Christ, that we may all rise up and claim the authority given to us through the Holy Ghost. Mobilize us, O Lord, to go into our communities, extending our hands—both in prayer and in action—to a world in desperate need of Your touch.
Finally, I thank You for the promise of the Holy Spirit in my life. I praise You for the times You have already moved in power through my prayers and actions. May each experience encourage me and strengthen my faith for what lies ahead. I trust in Your unending grace and the sufficiency of Your Spirit to empower me beyond what I can ask or think.
In Jesus' precious name, I pray, Amen.
