A Call to Service: A Prayer Inspired by Amos 7:15

"And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel." - Amos 7:15

"And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel." - Amos 7:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I bow my head before You today, my heart is softened by the words spoken through Your servant Amos. I reflect on the profound calling You placed upon him, saying, “And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.” In these sacred words, I recognize Your sovereignty and Your relentless pursuit of souls, guiding ordinary lives towards extraordinary purposes.

Lord, I come before You, seeking to understand and embrace my own calling. You chose Amos from among the shepherds to speak Your truth, a reminder that You do not call the equipped, but rather equip the called. I ask, Lord, that You would prepare my heart and my mind to serve You faithfully in the areas You’ve designated for me. Help me to see the specific ways I can fulfill Your mission, whether it be through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, or through the ministry of teaching and preaching to others.

Father, as Amos tended to the flock, he became acquainted with the deep needs of his sheep. May I also learn to be attentive to those around me. Guide my footsteps as I journey through this life, opening my eyes to the hurts, needs, and sufferings of others. Enable me to be an instrument of Your love and grace, encouraging those who are lost and lifting up the weary.

Strengthen my resolve to prophesy, to share Your Word with confidence and clarity. May I never shy away from declaring Your truth, even when it is difficult. In a world hungry for hope and truth, grant me the courage to speak up, to proclaim Your righteousness, and to proclaim salvation through Jesus Christ.

Lord, I recognize that I may face opposition, just as Amos faced the scorn of those who rejected his message. When I am met with resistance or indifference, help me to remain steadfast and unwavering, holding onto the assurance that it is You who empowers me. Remind me that every word spoken in Your name has the potential to transform hearts and lives.

As I seek to prophesy to Your people, I also beseech You to prepare their hearts. Soften the hearts of those who are indifferent or resistant. May Your Spirit work in their lives to create a hunger for truth and an openness to Your message. Let my words be seeds planted in fertile ground, yielding a harvest of faith and transformed lives.

In addition, I pray for unity among Your people, the Body of Christ. Help us to come together in love, to support one another in our respective callings. Let us encourage and uplift each other in our missions, knowing that we are all part of a greater plan. May we collaborate in the work of spreading Your message, celebrating the diverse ways You choose to reach the lost.

I lift up to You the leaders of our churches and communities. Just as You chose Amos, I ask that You continue to raise up prophets today—individuals who will boldly declare Your truth in a world that so desperately needs You. Empower them with wisdom, discernment, and a fierce dedication to their calling.

Finally, I pray that You would keep me humble in my service. Let me never assume that I am above any task You set before me; rather, let me follow the example of Christ, who came to serve and not to be served. Teach me the importance of humility and selflessness in my ministry, making me a vessel of Your love.

Thank You, Lord, for calling me to be part of Your plan. I am grateful for the promises contained in Your Word and the assurance that You are with me as I go forth to prophesy. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
