A Prayer for Renewed Focus on Heavenly Things
"Colossians 3:1-4: 1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory." - Colossians 3:1-4

O Heavenly Father,
In the stillness of this moment, I come before You with a heart humbled and full of gratitude. Your Word reminds us in Colossians 3:1-4, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God." I acknowledge that because of Your great love and mercy, I have been granted the gift of resurrection through my faith in Jesus Christ. I stand in awe of this miraculous truth—the old me is dead, and in Christ, I am made new.
Lord, help me to truly understand this transformation. I long to rise above the trivial pursuits and distractions that so easily entangle me. Teach me to seek those things which are above, where You reign in glory. Help me to have a firm resolve to redirect my focus from the fleeting pleasures of this world to the eternal treasures held in Heaven. Let my heart constantly yearn for the beauty of Your presence, for it is there that I find my true identity and purpose.
As Your word states, "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Lord, I confess that I often become preoccupied with earthly concerns—the worries about my job, relationships, and even my own desires. These things that seem urgent can cloud my vision and pull me away from what truly matters. Forgive me, Lord, for any time I have allowed my heart to stray from You. Instead, help me align my affections with the things that please You and bring glory to Your name.
I pray that You fill my heart with heavenly desires—a longing for righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. May my interactions with others reflect Your love and compassion. Enlighten my spirit to discern the difference between what is temporary and what is eternal, and grant me the wisdom to pursue the latter. Help me cultivate a heart that treasures kindness, humility, and service, for these are the fruits of a life anchored in You.
For Your Word also declares, "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." What a profound mystery this is, Lord! I find comfort in knowing that my past, my failures, and my fears have been sealed in Christ—hidden from the eyes of judgment and condemnation. In this hiding place, I am safe, and I rest in the assurance that my true life lies intertwined with Him. Help me to live each day in this truth, not in fear or anxiety about the future, but in a vibrant faith that reflects Your glory.
Lord, I eagerly anticipate the day when "Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory." My heart thrills at the thought of the glorious return of our Savior. Encourage me in my daily walk, reminding me that this life is but a vapor compared to the eternity that awaits. Instill in me a sense of urgency not to waste the time entrusted to me but to work diligently for Your Kingdom until the very moment You call me home.
As I continue to seek and set my affection on things above, I pray for guidance and strength to remain steadfast. Allow my heart to burst forth with worship and my lips to proclaim Your praises. Help me unite with fellow believers with the same resolve, encouraging one another to remain focused on our heavenly calling.
Thank You, Lord, for this gift of life hidden in Christ and the promise of glory to come. May I reflect Your light in this world, until the day I see You face-to-face. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray, Amen.
