A Prayer of Humble Devotion and Fasting
"I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled." - Daniel 10:3

O Sovereign Lord, Mighty God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, I come before You today with a humble heart, echoing the words of Your faithful servant Daniel, who chose to sacrifice his comfort and pleasure in pursuit of Your divine presence. Just as Daniel declared, ‘I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled,’ I, too, desire to enter into a time of solemn reflection and genuine seeking of Your face.
Heavenly Father, I recognize the weight and significance of fasting and prayer, as exemplified by Daniel. His commitment to abstain from the pleasures of this world underscores the need for unwavering focus on communion with You and the seeking of Your will. As I turn my heart towards You in this intent, I ask for the strength to initiate such a period of dedication, mirroring the discipline and fervor that Daniel exemplified.
Lord, I come before You aware of my many distractions. The demands of daily life, the worries of the future, and the allure of earthly delights often pull my attention away from You. Daniel’s example serves as a reminder that to seek You wholeheartedly, I may need to lay aside my comforts. Lord, please grant me the willpower to put aside the ‘pleasant bread’ of my life, whether it be the distractions of social media, the indulgence in entertainment, or even the time spent in mindless activities that take me away from Your presence.
Help me, dear God, to evaluate my life much like Daniel did. In this self-examination, I pray that You reveal to me the things I cling to that might hinder my relationship with You. Open my eyes, dear Lord, to see those aspects of my daily existence that are not in alignment with Your desires for me, those aspects that keep me from drawing near to You as I should. May my spirit yearn for the bread of life, which is Your Word, and not the transient pleasures of this world.
Lord, as I contemplate a time of fasting and prayer, stir my spirit with an urgency to seek clarity and understanding concerning the matters that weigh heavily on my heart and mind. Just as Daniel took this time to seek a clearer understanding of Your will, let me use this opportunity to ask of You wisdom in these areas. Guide my thoughts, my supplications, and my petitions, so that I may know Your will and guidance in my life.
With each day of fasting, let my physical hunger remind me of my spiritual hunger for You, O Lord. May the absence of physical bread lead to a greater desire for the Bread of Heaven. As Daniel devoted three weeks to seeking You through prayer, I pray also for that same commitment and endurance in my time of fasting. Allow moments of weakness to awaken in me a deeper longing for Your presence and provision.
Gracious God, during this period, may I be able to hear Your voice more clearly. Let the still, small voice within guide me in my choices and lead me to a greater understanding of Your purpose for my life. While I wait in prayer, may I trust in Your perfect timing, knowing that You are ever-faithful to those who earnestly seek You.
In my fasting, help me to draw joy in my sacrifice, recognizing that every portion I relinquish reflects my trust in You. May my sacrifice be a fragrant offering, pleasing to You, as I earnestly pursue a closer walk with You, mindful of Daniel's resolve and unyielding devotion. Thank You, Lord, for hearing my cry and for walking alongside me on this journey of faith.
In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
