A Prayer of Seeking and Surrender
"¶ And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:" - Daniel 9:3
O Sovereign Lord, Creator of the universe and the keeper of Your promises, I come before You today with a humble heart, seeking Your presence and guidance. As Daniel set his face unto You, intent on seeking You through prayer and supplication, I, too, endeavor to come before You with the same intention. I lift my soul to You, recognizing that without You, I am nothing, but with You, all things are possible.
In the profound simplicity of Daniel 9:3, I am reminded of the power of prayer and fasting, as well as the importance of coming before You clothed in humility. O Lord, as Daniel took the time to fast, putting aside physical nourishment to focus solely on You, I also seek to put away the distractions of this world. Help me to prioritize my time with You, to carve out moments in my day where I can truly tune my heart and mind to Your Holy Spirit. Create in me a longing to seek Your face, not just for personal gain or wisdom, but to understand Your heart and Your ways.
I come today with prayer and supplications. I present to You the burdens of my heart—those areas in my life, my family, my community, and indeed the world, in need of Your divine intervention. Lord, You know the depths of my struggles, the fears that linger, and the hopes that seem so distant. I desire to lay these before You, as Daniel laid before You the sins and iniquities of his people. Help me not to be blind to my own shortcomings, but rather to confess them openly. For as Your Word says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
With sackcloth and ashes, I acknowledge my frailty and the humility required to approach Your throne. I understand that these symbols signify mourning, repentance, and a deep recognition of my need for You. I desire to be fully honest with You, Lord, about my spiritual state. I know that you dwell with the humble in spirit, and I earnestly seek to have a heart that is contrite. Take away my pride, and help me recognize that I am completely dependent upon Your grace and mercy.
Lord, I pray for a deep yearning to know You more intimately. Like Daniel, I wish to draw near to You and experience the profound wisdom that comes from Your counsel. Teach me to seek Your guidance in every decision, to trust You in trials, and to find joy in Your presence, recognizing that it is in You that I find my true identity and purpose.
As I seek You, Lord, grant me clarity in prayer. Remind me to be persistent, as Your Word encourages us to pray without ceasing. Help me to keep my heart open to Your leading, to understand the path You have set before me, and to remain steadfast in faith. May my prayers be filled not just with requests, but with thanksgiving and praise; may I glorify You in every circumstance I encounter.
Lord, I lift the uncertainty of our world to You. From the troubles in our communities to the unrest on international stages, I pray for Your peace to reign. May those in positions of authority turn their hearts toward You, seeking guidance rather than their own agendas. May we all find a way back to Your righteousness—individually and collectively.
In all things, Lord, I seek Your will be done. I pray that in this season of spiritual seeking, I may find renewed strength and a deeper commitment to following You. As I set my face toward You, may I remain faithful and unwavering, trusting in Your perfect timing and infinite wisdom.

You have fulfilled the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing on us great disaster. Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem. Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth. The LORD did not hesitate to bring the disaster on us, for the LORD our God is righteous in everything he does; yet we have not obeyed him. Now, Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand and who made for yourself a name that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong. Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your city, your holy hill. Our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn to all those around us. Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name."" - Daniel 9:3-19
