"Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life." - Deuteronomy 16:3

Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, I do so with a heart full of thanksgiving and gratitude. You have brought me through countless trials and tribulations, much like the Israelites You led out of Egypt. I reflect on Deuteronomy 16:3, where You commanded, "Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life."

Father, as I meditate upon this verse, I am reminded of the significance of unleavened bread — a symbol of purity and simplicity. Leaven often represents sin and pride in our lives, and I ask that You help me purge any leaven from my heart — any unconfessed sin, any prideful thoughts, any bitterness towards others. May I strive to live a life that is free from the corruption of sin, embracing instead the humility and simplicity that is found in You.

Lord, the bread of affliction that You speak of in this verse leads me to reflect on the struggles and hardships I face. There are days when life feels overwhelming, when the trials weigh heavy upon my soul. Yet, I recognize that these moments of affliction are often the catalysts for growth in my faith. You remind me through this passage that affliction can serve a purpose. Just as the Israelites had to endure the hardships of slavery in Egypt, I too must remember that my own struggles are not in vain.

I lift up to You my burdens and I ask that You would transform my afflictions into testimonies of Your goodness. Allow me to see the bread of affliction as an opportunity to deepen my reliance on You. Teach me to draw closer to Your presence in these times, and let my trials be a source of strength rather than despair. Help me to embrace them with the faith that You are molding me into the person You desire me to be.

Father, You have shown us the importance of remembrance. Just as the Israelites were to remember the day they were delivered from Egypt, I too want to remember the countless ways You have delivered me. You rescued me from the bondage of sin, You have freed me from my past mistakes, and You walk with me each day guiding my steps.

Help me to cultivate an attitude of thankfulness and remembrance. I pray that I would never take for granted the salvation I have received through Your Son, Jesus Christ. May the memories of Your goodness and faithfulness fuel my worship and draw me nearer to Your heart. Let this remembrance be a constant reminder that I am never alone, for You are with me in every season of life.

Moreover, I ask that You would grant me a spirit of generosity, that I may share the bread of affliction with those who are suffering. Help me to be a source of encouragement to those around me, reminding them that in their pain, they are not abandoned. Let my life reflect Your love and your grace as I reach out to help others in their own struggles.

As I partake in this sacred remembrance, I offer my life as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto You. Let every meal I share, each moment of breaking bread, be a remembrance of the journey from captivity to grace. I commit to remembering that, just as You delivered the Israelites, You continue to rescue and redeem me today.

Thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing love and the gift of remembrance. I pray all of this in the precious name of Jesus, who is my Savior and Deliverer.

Amen.
