"For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:" - Ephesians 5:8

Holy and righteous Father, in the precious name of Jesus Christ, I come before Thee with reverence and thanksgiving. Thou art the God who seeth in secret, who knoweth the hearts of all, and who calleth Thy people out of shadow into truth. I praise Thee for Thy mercy that endureth, and for Thy grace that hath found me where I could not find myself. I bless Thee, Lord, for Thy Word that is sure and steadfast, and for the light of Thy presence that no darkness can overcome.

Lord, I hold before my soul the truth of Thy Scripture, written for my instruction and for my living: “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:” (Ephesians 5:8, KJV). Father, I confess that without Thee I was not merely surrounded by darkness, but I “were sometimes darkness.” I acknowledge that apart from Thy Son I had no true light within me, no pure understanding, no power to cleanse my thoughts, and no strength to change my ways. I confess the ways I have loved comfort more than holiness, approval more than obedience, and my own will more than Thy perfect will. Forgive me, Lord, for every time I have excused sin, hidden wrongdoing, spoken carelessly, or allowed bitterness, lust, pride, envy, or unbelief to take root in me. Wash me thoroughly, and let me not make peace with what Thou hast called evil.

Yet I thank Thee with a grateful heart, O God, that Thy Word also declares, “but now are ye light in the Lord.” Not by my merit, not by my good intentions, not by my striving, but by Thy mercy and by the work of Christ, Thou hast changed my standing and my identity. Thank Thee that in the Lord Jesus I am no longer bound to the old ways, no longer defined by shame, no longer destined to stumble without hope. Thank Thee for the gospel that shines into the deepest places, for the cross that cancels guilt, and for the resurrection power that makes all things new. Let the truth of “now are ye light in the Lord” sink deeply into my mind and shape how I see myself—humbled, yet chosen; weak, yet upheld; dependent, yet kept.

Father, because Thy Word commands, “walk as children of light,” I ask Thee to teach me how to walk. Order my steps. Let my daily life match the calling Thou hast given. Make my speech clean and true. Make my motives pure. Make my choices wise. Where I have been double-minded, give me singleness of heart. Where I have been secretive, bring me into honest confession and lasting repentance. Where I have been careless with time, awaken me to redeem it. Where I have blended into the world to avoid discomfort, give me courage to stand for righteousness with gentleness and with firmness.

Lord, let my walk be a testimony that Thy light is real. In my home, make me patient, kind, and consistent. In my workplace, make me diligent, honest, and peaceable. In my church, make me teachable, faithful, and ready to serve. In my private thoughts, keep me from impurity and vain imagination. Guard my eyes from what defiles, my ears from what corrupts, and my tongue from what wounds. Help me to forgive as I have been forgiven, to love when it is costly, and to bless when I am misunderstood. Let me not only speak of light, but live it.

Father, I ask Thee to expose every hidden corner where darkness still tries to linger. Shine Thy light upon habits I have normalized, fears I have entertained, and lies I have believed. Break every chain of compromise, and grant me grace to separate from that which draws me away from Thee. If there are relationships, influences, or patterns that dull my conscience, give me wisdom to set godly boundaries and strength to obey. Make me swift to repent and slow to harden my heart.

O Lord, fill me with the Holy Ghost, that I may not attempt this walk in my own strength. Keep me near to Thee in prayer, hungry for Thy Word, and sensitive to Thy leading. When I am weary, be my endurance. When I am tempted, be my way of escape. When I fall short, lift me quickly into repentance, and restore the joy of salvation. Teach me to abide in Christ, that His life may be seen in mine.

Finally, Father, let my life reflect Thy light to those around me who still sit in darkness. Make me a humble witness, bold without harshness, truthful without pride, compassionate without compromise. Use me to point others to Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. And as I go, remind me again and again of Thy Word: “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:” (Ephesians 5:8, KJV).

I ask all these things with faith, submitting to Thy will, trusting Thy power, and giving Thee all glory. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
