A Prayer of Gratitude and Wisdom Inspired by Exodus 18:1
"When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;" - Exodus 18:1

O Lord, our God, the Creator of heaven and Earth, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude and reverence. On this day, we reflect on the words from Exodus 18:1, which remind us of the great works You have done for Your people. The Scriptures say, "When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;"
Heavenly Father, just as Jethro rejoiced upon hearing of Your miraculous deeds, we too stand in awe of Your power and mercy. We acknowledge that it is by Your mighty hand that You lead and deliver us from the bondage of sin and despair. In the same way You liberated the Israelites from the tyranny of Pharaoh, You have freed us from the grip of evil, making us new creations in Christ. We thank You for the salvation that You offer, for the hope that blossoms in our hearts through faith in You.
Lord, we are grateful for the testimonies of Your faithfulness. Jethro, a priest of Midian, demonstrated that Your glory is renowned beyond borders, and Your wonders are to be declared to all nations. May we, like Jethro, take every opportunity to share the stories of what You have done in our lives, reflecting Your goodness and love. Help us to be witnesses to Your grace and mercy, proclaiming Your name to those who do not know You.
As we meditate on this verse, we also ask for wisdom, as Jethro did when he approached his son-in-law, Moses. We recognize that in our journey, we will encounter challenges and burdens that can overwhelm us. Please grant us the discernment to seek counsel and embrace the wisdom of others, whether they come from our family, our communities, or even strangers. May we remain humble enough to accept help and guidance, just as Moses listened to Jethro's advice.
Father, bless those who lead Your people, whether they are pastors, teachers, or mentors. Equip them with the wisdom that comes from You, so they can guide others in Your truth and love. Just as Jethro observed and offered prudent counsel to Moses, may we also surround ourselves with those who speak life and righteousness into our circumstances.
We ask, Lord, that You continue to reveal Your plan for our lives as You did for Moses and the Israelites. We know that Your path is often not straightforward, and we may face trials and tribulations along the way. Yet, we trust that Your presence shall go with us. Allow us to remain steadfast during moments of uncertainty and remind us to hold tightly to Your promises, for Your plans for us are good, as we read in Jeremiah 29:11.
Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of prayer, for the access we have to Your throne of grace. Let every word we speak, every prayer we lift, resonate with the joy that comes from knowing You have brought us out of darkness into Your marvelous light. Help us to rejoice in Your salvation as Jethro did, recognizing Your mighty hands at work in our lives and in our communities.
We pray, O God, that we might grow in faith, share our testimonies with boldness, and continually look for opportunities to celebrate all that You have done and are doing. May our lives reflect a legacy of faith, just as Jethro became an integral figure in the story of Your people.
In Your holy name, we pray, believing that You will guide us with Your wisdom and love, as we move forward in this journey of faith, knowing that You are with us every step of the way. Amen.
