A Prayer for Honor and Hospitality: Inspired by Exodus 18:7
"¶ And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent." - Exodus 18:7

Heavenly Father,
As I approach Your throne of grace today, I am filled with reverence for Your Word, which guides us in our relationships and interactions with one another. Your teachings remind us of the importance of respect, honor, and empathy, as exemplified in the beautiful encounter between Moses and his father-in-law Jethro, as recorded in Exodus 18:7: "And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent."
Lord, I come before You with a heart yearning to embody the spirit of honor that Moses demonstrated. I ask for the grace to emulate his actions, to go out of my way to greet those whom I love with respect and warmth. Help me to make each meeting a sacred exchange, where joy and recognition flow freely. Teach me, Father, to first humble myself in Your presence and then among those I hold dear, recognizing the divine worth and dignity You have bestowed upon each person.
Mighty God, I plead for Your assistance in building and nurturing healthy relationships in my life. Just as Moses took the initiative to meet Jethro, may I also be proactive in reaching out to family, friends, and even acquaintances. Help me to see the value in asking others about their welfare, fostering deepening connections that go beyond superficial interactions. Let my heart overflow with genuine concern for others, cultivating a spirit of kindness and support within my community.
Father, I pray that in this world filled with hurried lives and fleeting connections, I may cultivate the pause to inquire about others' well-being, to listen intently to their stories, and to allow my heart to be filled with empathy and love. May I always create an atmosphere of welcome, similar to the tent that Moses shared with Jethro, where souls can find solace and companionship. Help me to open my home and heart, embracing hospitality with a spirit of joy and generosity.
O God, I seek Your wisdom in laying the foundations of respect and love in my relationships. Just as Moses showed obeisance—the act of acknowledging Jethro’s authority—help me to honor my elders, mentors, and those in positions of guidance with reverence. Enable me to recognize the sacrifices they have made and the wisdom they share. Teach me to reflect on my own responsibility in upholding these values, and to inspire others to do the same.
In the moments that challenge my relationships, when misunderstandings arise and tempers flare, remind me of the love and patience shown by Moses. May my responses be rooted in grace rather than irritation, reaching out for reconciliation and understanding. Let Your Holy Spirit dwell in my heart, leading me to acts of reconciliation, so that the spirit of love and unity may reign wherever I am.
Lord, as I continue to grow in this aspect of my life, let it be more than mere ritual or practice; let my actions stem from a heart that is genuinely changed by Your love. May my relationships be transformed into reflections of Your grace and kindness, where honor, empathy, and hospitality are abundant and freely given, just as You so richly give.
Finally, I thank You for every person You have placed in my life. May I never take them for granted. Help me to cherish our connections, fostering bonds that reflect Your love and goodness. As I turn my gaze towards those around me, I ask that Your Holy Spirit embolden me to be a beacon of light and love, following the example set forth by Moses in honoring his father-in-law.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
