A Prayer for Accountability and Stewardship
"But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire." - Exodus 22:15

Dear Heavenly Father,
As we come before You today, we are reminded of the wisdom found in Your Word, particularly in Exodus 22:15, which states, "But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire." Lord, we thank You for the Scriptures that guide us in matters of ethics, relationships, and responsibilities. We seek to understand the depth of this verse and how it applies to our lives today.
Lord, first and foremost, we acknowledge You as the ultimate Owner of all things. Everything we possess and all that we are comes from You. You have entrusted us with resources, relationships, and responsibilities, and it is our duty to honor that trust. Help us to remember that we are stewards of what You have given us, and with that stewardship comes accountability.
We ask for forgiveness for the times we have neglected our responsibilities. There are moments when we may not have been diligent, used our time unwisely, or mismanaged our resources. Help us to repent of any negligence, Lord, and to strive for excellence in all that we do, recognizing that our work is ultimately for You. May we work with integrity, understanding that we are representing Your name in our actions and dealings.
Father, in understanding the deeper meaning of this verse, we reflect upon our relationships with others — those who work with us or for us. Help us to treat everyone with respect and fairness. As it states, the owner's presence affects the responsibility for hired things. Teach us to be present, both physically and emotionally, with those we work alongside and those we employ. May we not only meet obligations but also create an environment where trust, respect, and mutual benefit flourish.
Lord, grant us wisdom to discern our roles within our families, workplaces, and communities. Help us to show appreciation to those who work diligently for us, remembering that they labor for their hire, often sacrificing their time and energy. Let us not be indifferent but rather acknowledge their efforts and reward them fairly. May we model generosity, kindness, and gratitude in our interactions, reflecting Your love and grace.
We also pray for those who are in positions of authority—the employers, leaders, and decision-makers. Give them discernment, O God, to lead with fairness and integrity. May they recognize the weight of their responsibilities and the impact of their decisions on individuals and communities alike. Encourage them to seek the welfare of their employees and to cultivate a workplace that nurtures growth, not just productivity.
Lord, as we navigate through life's challenges and make decisions, remind us of the principle that our responsibilities extend beyond just ourselves. Help us to be mindful that our actions have consequences not only for ourselves but for others as well. If we are employees, let us give our best; and if we are leaders, let us guide with wisdom, justice, and empathy.
We also lift up those who are struggling with the burden of unfulfilled promises or tasks, those who feel overwhelmed by the expectations placed upon them. Provide comfort and support to those weary souls. Teach us to reach out, offer help, and lift one another up in times of need.
In closing, may we ever strive to embody the principles of accountability and stewardship in our daily lives. Help us not to forget that while we engage in the workings of this world, we are ultimately held accountable before You, our Creator. Let our lives be a testament to Yours, steering clear from negligence and embracing responsibility with joy and diligence.
In Jesus' precious name, we pray,
Amen.
