A Prayer for Cleansing and Service Before God
"For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:" - Exodus 30:19

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, acknowledging Your greatness and sovereignty over all creation. As we reflect on Your word in Exodus 30:19, “For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat,” we are reminded of the profound significance of purification and preparation in our lives. Lord, just as You commanded Moses to instruct Aaron and his sons to cleanse themselves before entering into Your holy presence, we too seek to cleanse our hearts and minds to serve You better.
O Lord, we understand that the act of washing hands and feet symbolizes more than mere physical cleanliness; it represents the inner state of our souls. “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalms 51:10). We earnestly ask You to search our hearts and reveal any thoughts, attitudes, or behaviors that do not honor You. Forgive us, Father, for the times we have allowed the grime of sin to build up in our lives, hindering our relationship with You and our ability to serve others.
Help us, O Lord, to recognize the importance of daily washing our souls through repentance and prayer. Just as Aaron and his sons had to prepare themselves physically with water, remind us to continually immerse ourselves in the waters of Your grace. Allow us to draw near to You, seeking Your presence in our daily lives so that we may be refined and renewed. When we come to You in prayer, let us lay aside any burdens that weigh us down, seeking Your cleansing power to wash over us.
We also recognize that our feet point to our actions—the paths we take and where they lead. Let every step we take be directed by Your hand, dear Lord. Help us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling You have placed on our lives as Your servants. May we choose paths that reflect Your love and righteousness, remembering that each step can either draw us closer to You or lead us away into temptation. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord” (Psalms 37:23); we earnestly pray that our steps will be firm and established in Your word, shining as lights in a world marred by darkness.
As we think of the priests washing themselves, let us be reminded of the high calling You have placed upon us as members of the priesthood of believers (1 Peter 2:9). It is a privilege to serve You, to intercede for others, and to reflect Christ’s love in our actions. Help us to approach this calling with reverence and humility. Empower us by Your Spirit to lead lives that are not only cleansed but also characterized by service to others, living out our faith in tangible ways that point back to You.
Father, let this prayer flow into action. Grant us the wisdom to be discerning in how we live and serve. When we are tempted to be prideful, remind us of the humility displayed in the act of washing, both by Aaron and by Jesus Himself, who washed the feet of His disciples (John 13:5). As we serve, may we do so with a heart of love, compassion, and humility, taking on the nature of a servant just as Christ did.
In this moment, we dedicate our hands and feet to be instruments of Your peace and love. May the work of our hands and the direction of our feet bring glory to Your name. In every small act of service, help us to see the larger picture of Your kingdom at work around us. May we echo the principles of cleanliness and preparedness that You established with Aaron and his sons.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray,
Amen.
