The Divine Encounter: A Prayer of Reflection and Repentance
"¶ And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him." - Exodus 4:24

O Lord of mercy and grace,
As I come before Thee this day, I am reminded of the profound and unsettling truth found in Exodus 4:24, which states, "And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him." This verse resonates within my spirit, echoing the seriousness of Thy holiness and the sobering reality of Thy judgment.
I reflect on this passage, Lord, and I am struck by the gravity of the encounter that took place. I understand that as we embark on the journeys of our lives, we do so under Thy watchful gaze. Thou art omniscient and just, and I acknowledge that each step I take is either in alignment with Thine ways or in defiance of them. In this solemn moment, I beseech Thee for Thy guidance and mercy.
Heavenly Father, as I contemplate the man in this narrative, I recognize the times in my own life when I have wandered away from Thy commands. Just as You met him in the inn, I believe You meet each of us where we are—amidst our struggles, our fears, our failures. I ask that You make me aware of any unconfessed sin and any areas of my life where I have turned my back to Thee. Forgive me, O God, for the moments when I have knowingly walked outside of Thy will.
I deeply desire to be in right standing with Thee, to be covered by the precious blood of Jesus. May I not be found lacking, as the man was in this passage. As You sought to kill him, I see a reflection of my own need for repentance. Make my heart tender, Lord. Help me to heed the warnings that You place in my path, to recognize when I am straying from Your commandments.
In the stillness of this prayer, I feel Thy presence, Lord—a presence that can be both comforting and convicting. I know that Your love is immense, yet I am reminded that Your righteousness demands an accounting. I pray for the courage and humility to face those aspects of my life that are displeasing in Your sight. As I pray, I am reminded that tribulation often leads to transformation when faced with sincerity and contrition.
O merciful Lord, may I never take for granted the grace that You extend towards me. Help me to live in a manner worthy of that grace, to honor You in my thoughts, my words, and my actions. Let my heart be a dwelling place for Thy Spirit, and may I be diligent in nurturing my relationship with You through prayer, study of the Word, and acts of service.
I pray for those who may be wandering on a similar path—those who find themselves in a spiritual wilderness similar to the man in the inn. May they experience a divine encounter with You, Lord! Bring them to a place of recognition and repentance, where they can turn back to You, receiving the forgiveness that flows from Your heart.
As I reflect on this verse, I am reminded of the complexity and duality of Your nature—You who are both a consuming fire and a comforting embrace. I seek to understand this duality more deeply so that I may be transformed by the renewing of my mind and spirit.
Father, I ask that You would create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. I long to experience the fullness of Your presence and to be aligned with Your will. May my life be a testament to Your mercy, a reflection of Thy love, and a vessel for Your glory.
In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

It's 1450 BC. Moses and Zipporah along with their two sons, a toddler and a baby, checked into an inn on their way to Egypt from Midian (Arbian desert). They all wear ancient near eastern clothing, and the inn is an inexpensive place, not a luxurious one.
