A Prayer of Recognition of God’s Sovereignty and Power
“And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.” — Exodus 9:23
O Almighty God, Sovereign Lord of heaven and earth, we come before You today with humble hearts, fully aware of Your power that transcends our understanding. We recall the words of Exodus 9:23, where it is written, "And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt." Lord, this scripture stands as a profound reminder of Your might and the authority vested in those who follow Your will.
As we reflect on this moment in history, we remember the courage of Moses, who, in obedience to You, lifted his rod to the heavens. We see how he interceded for Your people, boldly facing Pharaoh with a message of deliverance. Help us, Lord, to possess such courageous faith. Teach us to raise our gaze towards You in our times of travail, and empower us to be instruments of Your peace and deliverance in a world that so desperately needs Your light.
Heavenly Father, You are the Creator of all. The thunder that crashes, the hailstones that fall, and the fire that rages, all obey Your command. You remind us that while we may feel overwhelmed by the forces of nature, it is You who reigns supreme over every storm and every calamity. May we find solace in Your omnipotence, knowing that even in our most challenging moments, Your hand is upon us, guiding and protecting us.
We beseech You today, O Lord, as we navigate through our struggles and adversities. Let us understand that storms in our lives—whether they manifest as relational conflicts, financial concerns, or health challenges—are not beyond Your control. Just as You sent hail upon Egypt, we know that You can invade our circumstances with Your divine intervention.
May we learn to stretch forth the rod of faith in our hands, believing that You will act on our behalf. In times of doubt and uncertainty, remind us of the miraculous deliverance of the Israelites, the signs and wonders that followed their cries for help. Fortify our spirits with the truth that You are a God who responds to the cries of those who call out to You with a sincere heart.
Lord, we recognize that Your purposes extend beyond our immediate desires. As You rained down hail upon Egypt, Your actions were not merely punishment, but reminders of Your glory—showing that You are the true God in contrast to the powerless idols of Egypt. Help us, O Lord, to see beyond our circumstances, trusting that You are constantly at work for our ultimate good and for the realization of Your divine plans.
We pray for the hearts hardened by sin, just as Pharaoh’s heart was hardened in the face of Your miracles. May Your thunder rattle the complacent, and may Your hail break down the barriers that keep souls from recognizing Your sovereignty. As we share the gospel of Your love and power, may Your Spirit work mightily through us, breaking chains and setting captives free.
Finally, we come before You with hearts of gratitude, recognizing that every day is a new opportunity to witness Your handiwork in our lives. We ask You to teach us how to praise You not only when the skies are clear, but even when storms rage around us. Let us be a people who find joy amidst the trials, who ultimately rest in the assurance that You reign over every aspect of our existence.
In the name of Jesus, who calms the storms and commands the winds, we pray. Amen.

Different races of people being all over the Earth with the tower of Babel in the middle with the verse “So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth. (Genesis 11:8-9)” Hail and fire balls falling from the sky in a dark storm and destroying Egypt. It is burning buildings and crops. Include the verse “When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the Lord sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt; hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields—both people and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree. (Exodus 9:23-25)”
