A Prayer for Discernment and Truth in Troubling Times
"¶ Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:" - Ezekiel 13:10

Almighty God,
We come before You today, recognizing the gravity and the weight of the words spoken through Your prophet Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 13:10, You revealed the deception that was rampant in the hearts of the people. "Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter." Lord, let these words resonate deep within our souls as we seek Your guidance in our current lives.
Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that we live in a world saturated with conflicting messages and chaotic narratives. The cry for peace often masks the reality of discord and turmoil lingering just beneath the surface. Just as in the days of Ezekiel, we find ourselves surrounded by those who promise comfort and reassurance yet deliver nothing but falsehoods and empty words. We seek Your wisdom to discern truth from lies, comfort from chaos, and light from darkness.
Lord, we ask for the gift of discernment, that we may not be easily swayed by those who would seek to lead us astray. Help us to identify the walls that are being constructed among us, walls built on deception and sustained with untempered mortar—walls that do not stand the test of time or withstand the storms of life.
We pray for Your congregation, O God, for those who gather in Your name, pursing truth and advocating for justice. May we be vigilant against those who claim to speak on Your behalf while seducing Your people away from Your truth. Give us the courage to confront these entities, whether they arise from our own hearts or from those within our communities.
Lord, fortify our spirit so we may stand firm against the lure of complacency and distractors that whisper sweet nothings of peace while leading us astray. Help us to be the watchmen You have called us to be, lifting our voices against the deceptions that pervade our society. Let our prayers and actions reflect Your heart, filled with love for others while leading their eyes back to Your truth.
Father, strengthen the believers, surround them with truth-seekers who long to build a foundation sturdy enough to withstand life's trials. Let us seek to uplift one another, reminding ourselves and each other of the real peace that comes only from You. Spare us the pain of untempered mortar—of foundation that crumbles at the shake of adversity.
We reflect upon our responsibilities as followers of Christ. Your command to be as shrewd as serpents and as innocent as doves rings clearly. Teach us, O Lord, to balance our faith rooted in truth with the tenderness modeled in Your love. Let humility guide our actions even as we stand firm for righteousness in moments of disagreement.
God, we also reflect upon our personal walls. In our lives, what has been built with untempered mortar? Where have we, in our own hearts, constructed barriers born out of fear, pride, or isolation? Shine Your light into these places, Lord, that we may seek to fortify our lives with the mortar of faith, love, and truth that stems from You.
In closing, we cry out for grace and mercy as we, too, navigate this intricate weave of life. Shine Your light upon our paths that we may walk in accordance with Your will. As we face deception in various forms, may we always pursue Your peace—the true peace that surpasses all understanding. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
