A Prayer for Righteousness and Redemption
"¶ But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die." - Ezekiel 18:24

O Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I bow my heart in reverence and humility, aware of the weight of Your words given to us through the prophet Ezekiel. Your scripture in Ezekiel 18:24 reminds us of the seriousness of our choices and the depth of our relationship with You. I am reminded of the righteous path that I am called to walk, yet I also recognize the peril of straying from that path. ‘But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live?’ Lord, these words echo in my spirit as a warning against complacency and sin.
I come before You not only with a sense of awe but also with a heart thankful for Your grace and mercy that are extended to us, even in our times of weakness. I pray that You would help me to abide in Your righteousness, that I may never take for granted the victory that I have through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me to remember that righteousness is not merely an attribute but a lifestyle - one that requires my constant attention and devotion.
As I meditate on the latter portion of the verse, where it states, ‘All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die,’ I find myself earnestly pleading for sincerity in my walk with You. Lord, make me aware of any areas in my life where I may inadvertently be straying from Your statutes. Grant me the discernment to recognize sin when it rises to challenge my integrity, so that I might turn back to You before it leads me astray.
Father, let my heart be steadfast in righteousness, and should I ever find myself in a state of iniquity, remind me of the cost of my rebellion. Lord, I do not want to be the one whose past obedience is erased by present disobedience. I long to hear the words “well done” when I stand before You, and I recognize that requires a continual obedience to Your will. Help me, O God, to remember that my actions today shape my tomorrow.
You are a God of justice and a God of mercy. Even in my failures, You stand ready to forgive and to restore. Help me to always come back to You, forsaking my sins and turning my heart towards repentance. May my sorrow for sin bring forth life and not death, as promised in your Word. Help me to remember that no matter how far I stray, Your arms are always wide open to receive me back when I humble myself before You.
Lord, I lift up to You those who may feel lost or are struggling with past mistakes and the weight of guilt. May they find hope in Your unfailing love and the assurance that redemption is always possible through Christ. Encourage their hearts to turn away from iniquity and embrace the path of righteousness, knowing that You are a God who delights in the restoration of souls.
As we strive to live righteously, may our lives reflect Your light in a world that often dwells in darkness. Empower us to be beacons of hope, standing firm against temptation and encouraging others to seek Your face. We pray that through our example, many will come to know the joy of living in Your righteousness.
Thank You for Your words that pierce our hearts and draw us closer to You. Help us to remain vigilant as we navigate this journey of faith, and may we always choose righteousness over iniquity.
In the precious name of Jesus, we ask for strength and grace,
Amen.
