A Prayer for Faithfulness and Reverence in Our Offerings
"For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings." - Ezekiel 20:28

O Lord Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, we come before You today with hearts full of reverence and gratitude, remembering the truths captured in Ezekiel 20:28, where You declare: "For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings."
Father, we acknowledge that everything we have is a gift from You, a reflection of Your kindness and unwavering promise. You lifted up Your hand in covenant, bringing us into a place of blessing and abundance, just as You did for the Israelites. You showed them every high hill and thick tree, symbols of the beauty of creation and Your providence. We pray, Lord, that we may open our eyes to the wonders You have placed before us—to see the land flowing with milk and honey that is our communion with You and the myriad ways You bless our lives.
Lord, let us remember that our sacrifices are a response to Your graciousness. Just as the people of Israel offered their sacrifices upon the high hills and among the trees, we desire to bring to You offerings that are sweet in Your sight. Help us to present our lives, our time, and our resources as a fragrant aroma, pleasing to You. We repent for the times we have neglected to honor You with our first fruits or when we have been careless in our worship—allow us to come humbly with hearts turned towards You and offerings worthy of Your majesty.
Merciful Father, awaken our hearts to the true essence of sacrifice. We pray that our offerings are not merely ceremonial acts, but expressions of our love, devotion, and worship unto You. Teach us to offer sacrifices of praise in all circumstances, to pour out our hearts as drink offerings, fully trusting in Your faithfulness. May we never forget that our greatest sacrifice is the surrendering of ourselves in love and obedience to You, O God.
We also reflect upon the symbolic nature of those high hills and thick trees; they represent both the obstacles and blessings present in our lives. Each challenge may seem a great mountain, yet we know You are able to turn our obstacles into altars of worship. Teach us, Sovereign Lord, to see the trials and tribulations as opportunities to draw nearer to You, to cling to the promise of Your hand lifting us above and beyond.
You have written the story of redemption in our hearts, and it is a chapter of grace, and hope. As we gather together, let us build our altars high, where our songs will echo among the trees of praise lifting our voices to the heavens. You are worthy, O Lord, of all our adoration! May our sacrifices and sweet savour rise before You, a testament to our faith in whom we trust.
Holy Spirit, guide our steps as we navigate the landscape of our lives. May we choose to dwell upon the hills of righteousness and to plant ourselves next to the streams of living water. Remind us constantly to offer our sacrifices in sincerity and truth, leading us into intimate communion with You.
Oh Lord, may we not repeat the mistakes of our forefathers who took for granted Your abundant blessings. Help us, God, to live lives characterized by gratitude and reverence, for everything we possess is from Your gracious hand. We give You thanks, we give our offerings, and we give ourselves as a living sacrifice.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, we pray. Amen.
