O Sovereign Lord, the Eternal King of all creation,

I humbly come before Your presence with a heart filled with reverence and awe.

As I reflect on the profound words of Ezekiel 3:15,

"Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-abib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days,"

I seek to understand the weight of this scripture,

And how it calls me to a deeper level of empathy and understanding towards those who suffer and endure hardship.

Lord, You have called Your servants, like Ezekiel, to witness the pain of others,

To sit among them in their desolation, and to share in their grief.

Help me to embody this same spirit of compassion.

Just as Ezekiel joined those in captivity by the rivers of Babylon,

Grant me the grace to be present where there is sorrow,

To acknowledge the struggles of those around me,

And to comfort the weary and the broken-hearted.

In a world filled with division and strife,

Where many dwell in their own personal captivities,

Teach me to understand the burden of others’ hearts.

When I witness suffering,

Open my eyes to see beyond the surface,

To recognize the stories that each person carries.

Let me not turn away or seek comfort in my own ease,

But rather sit with those in need—

To be still, to listen, and to share in their astonishment at life’s trials.

Heavenly Father, we know that the rivers of Chebar represent a place of alienation and exile,

Yet in this place of captivity, Your prophet found an opportunity for connection and understanding.

Help me to realize that the discomfort of silence and the shared astonishment of suffering can cultivate deep bonds of fellowship.

May I never shy away from the hard places,

But embrace the calling to be a vessel of Your love even amidst despair.

Lord, I ask You to grant me patience as I sit beside those who mourn.

Give me the wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent.

Let my presence serve as a reminder of Your mercy,

And may my heart reflect Your love, bringing hope where hope is dimmed.

Teach me that there is purpose in the waiting,

That seven days spent in astonishment can be transformed into profound ministry.

In those moments shared—

Whether with the hungry, the homeless, the grieving—the captive,

Let Your Spirit flow through me.

Help me to manifest Your grace

So that every encounter is a reflection of Your compassion

And a testament to Your faithfulness.

As I meditate on the experiences of Ezekiel,

I remember the sacred space of sorrow.

Teach me that vulnerability among Your people is strength,

And that in our shared astonishment, we can discover renewal.

May we, who are blessed with Your presence, become instruments of healing,

Calling forth hope and restoration in the lives of others.

I dedicate my heart to this mission, Lord,

To share in the stories of those captive to pain.

I implore You to fill me with Your Spirit,

Guiding my heart to remain open and responsive.

Let my life echo the words of Ezekiel,

As I, too, come to those in need,

Sitting where they sit, remaining with them in love and astonishment.
