A Prayer for Divine Wisdom and Leadership
"And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not." - Ezra 7:25

O Sovereign Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth, the One who knows the thoughts and intentions of our hearts, we come before You today in a spirit of humility and reverence, seeking Your divine guidance and wisdom as we reflect upon the calling You placed upon Ezra in the days of old. We are reminded of the verse in Ezra 7:25: "And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not."
Lord, we thank You for the wisdom that is found in Your Word, a wisdom that is not of this world but is rooted in divine truth. As we consider Ezra's task of appointing judges and magistrates, we reflect on the importance of righteous leadership. We pray for our leaders, both spiritual and secular, that they may be infused with the wisdom that comes from You. Grant them the discernment to uphold justice and integrity in their decisions, that they may judge rightly and lead with compassion.
We pray for magistrates and judges in our communities and countries whose role is to administer the law and ensure that justice prevails. May they recognize that their authority is a solemn responsibility bestowed upon them, one that requires alignment with Your divine principles. As Ezra had the wisdom of God in his hand, may our leaders seek Your face daily, turning to You for guidance in the decisions that affect the lives of many.
Father, we ask that You awaken in us an understanding of Your laws and teachings. Like Ezra, let us be diligent to know Your commands and to impart that knowledge to others. We pray for a revival of understanding amongst Your people, that we may fully grasp the laws of God that have been given to us. As many are lost in confusion and disarray, let our churches and communities be places of teaching and learning, where those who know the truth share it with those who do not.
Lord, stir within us a passion for educating others—especially those who are in authority—so that they may know Your commandments and lead in a manner reflective of Your righteousness. Help us to be effective in our spheres of influence, teaching patiently and with love, as instructed by the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 2:24-25, where he urges us to be gentle and kind as we correct those in error.
We ask, O God, that You would raise up new leaders who will follow in the path of Ezra, those who will not compromise Your truth but will stand firm in the face of adversity. We pray that they will embrace their roles not simply as positions of power but as platforms for wielding justice and mercy. Empower them, Holy Spirit, to discern right from wrong and to lead with the integrity that can only come from You.
Let Your justice roll like a river, and Your righteousness like a mighty stream. Pour out Your Spirit upon those who seek to know You, that they may see the truth and recognize the importance of being guided by Your divine laws.
In closing, we ask that You would fill our hearts with hope as we anchor our trust in You. Equip us to walk in wisdom and truth, following the example set by Ezra. Help us to cultivate a heart for teaching and justice, so that our actions may reflect Your love and righteousness in the world. May we always seek to Glorify You in our work and in our lives, for it is by Your will that all things hold together.
In the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
