A Prayer for Prioritizing Your Kingdom
"Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house." - Haggai 1:9

Heavenly Father,
We come before Your throne of grace, recognizing the profound truth embedded in the words of Haggai 1:9: "Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house." Lord, these words resonate deeply within our hearts today as we reflect upon our lives, our priorities, and our obedience to You.
O Great Creator, You are the Author of all things, the One who knows our hearts and the motivations that drive us. Teach us, Lord, to discern our actions and intentions. You have blessed us abundantly, and yet we often find ourselves in seasons where we feel we are working hard for little gain. We strive and toil for prosperity and wealth, and yet the results seem meager. We invite Your spirit into this tension, acknowledging that it is sometimes a reflection of our cluttered priorities.
Forgive us, Father, for the times we have neglected Your house—the church, the community, the body of Christ—in pursuit of our personal gain and comfort. We repent for the times we have allowed our homes to be our sole focus, forgetting that our true home is in Your kingdom. We have run every man to his own house, but we ask, Lord, that You would redirect our hearts to prioritize Your glory above our own desires. Help us to see the impact of neglecting the spiritual and physical needs of Your house.
Father, we recognize that Your discontentment with the state of our priorities leads to the consequences we suffer. Perhaps we experience financial hardships, strained relationships, or unfulfilled ambitions because we are seeking only for ourselves rather than for You. Lord, forgive us for being self-absorbed and remind us of the importance of community and collective worship. Your Word calls us to love and care for one another, and we desire to fulfill that calling.
We pray for a reformation in our hearts and in our attitudes towards generosity and service. Ignite within us a desire to build Your house, to invest in the lives of others, and to see our contributions reflect Your light to the world. May we see our resources as opportunities to further Your kingdom rather than merely for personal gain. Help us to realize that true fulfillment comes not in accumulating more for ourselves, but in giving more for You.
As we strive to align our priorities with Your divine will, remind us of the joy that comes when we serve one another. May our work for Your house be seen as an investment in eternity. Grant us wisdom to identify ways we can actively participate in the expansion of Your kingdom—whether through volunteering, offering our skills, or providing resources to those in need.
We plead for a spirit of generosity to overflow from our hearts, breaking the chains of selfishness and entitlement. We ask that You would bless our efforts, Lord, so that we may look not for much but for the significance of our actions in Your eyes. Help us to truly understand that our contributions may seem small, yet they are mighty in Your kingdom.
Lord, we desire to turn our gaze away from earthly pursuits and refocus on the spiritual. Stir in us a passion for Your house, that it may not be laid waste at our expense. Let us be faithful stewards of all that You have entrusted to us, nurturing what we have been given for the glory of Your name. We commit our lives to seeking first Your kingdom, trusting that everything else will be added unto us.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray,
Amen.
