A Prayer for Holiness and Stewardship in Our Lives

"And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing." - Isaiah 23:18

"And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing." - Isaiah 23:{verse.verse_number}

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today, drawn into Your presence by the profound truth revealed in Isaiah 23:18, where Your Word states, "And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.” Lord, as we meditate on this verse, we stand in awe of Your heart for holiness, provision, and stewardship in our lives.

Father, we acknowledge that all we possess—our resources, our talents, our time—are gracious gifts from You. We easily forget that everything in our lives is meant to reflect Your glory and serve Your purpose. We confess that, too often, we fall into the trap of treasuring these gifts for ourselves, laying them up for our own sake rather than considering how we can use them for You and for others. Forgive us, O God, for the times we have been selfish with what You have blessed us with and have focused on material gain instead of eternal impact.

Lord, allow us to embrace a spirit of holiness—the essence of setting apart our lives and our resources solely for You. May our merchandise, our work, and our very lives be consecrated unto You. Help us to see our occupations, businesses, and daily tasks as avenues to express Your love and grace. May reminders of Your holiness permeate our hearts, our workplaces, and our homes, so that everything we do might lift You up and bring glory to Your name.

We pray for clarity in how we manage our lives and resources, that we might not hoard what You provide for us but rather distribute it freely to those in need. Teach us, LORD, that Your economy is not one of scarcity, but of abundance. You are the source of everything, and Your supply does not run dry! Inspire us to have generous spirits, seeking to help the poor, to uplift the oppressed, and to share our blessings with those who dwell before You.

Heavenly Father, as Isaiah underscores, may our merchandise be for those who dwell with You—those who worship, those who seek Your face, and those who are in need. Stir within our hearts a compassion that reflects Your heart. May we live as conduits of Your love, supplying not just physical needs, like food and clothing, but also spiritual sustenance, encouragement, and empathy. Guide us to recognize the hurting and broken around us and motivate us to meet their needs—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Lord, impart within us a desire to invest wisely in the Kingdom. May we commit our resources not just to fleeting pleasures but to lasting endeavors that bring hope and life to others. Challenge us to prioritize giving over gaining, and to treasure eternal rewards over earthly treasures. Let our lives not be consumed by the desire to accumulate, but rather to release—release our talents in service, release our resources to help, and release our love to our communities and beyond.

In times of abundance, remind us to be thankful stewards; in moments of scarcity, remind us of our continual dependence on You. May Your Holy Spirit guide our decisions so that we do not lay up our treasures here on earth, but instead invest in the souls around us and in Your everlasting Kingdom.

With thankful hearts, we recognize that we are blessed to be a blessing. Let every bit of our effort, our resources, and our lives be directed towards honoring You, contributing to Your Kingdom, and serving Your people, that all may find sufficiency in You. We ask for Your grace to walk in Your ways, to mirror Your heart of generosity, and to ultimately bring You glory.

In the holy name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
