A Prayer of Repentance and Return
"¶ Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted." - Isaiah 31:6

O Sovereign Lord, our Unchanging God, we come before You with reverent hearts, burdened by the weight of our transgressions and the heavy chains of our waywardness. In Your Word, You beckon us with a loving call in Isaiah 31:6, where You declare, "Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted." We hear Your voice, a sound that resonates through the ages, calling us to return, not by our strength but through genuine contrition and humility.
Lord, we acknowledge that like the children of Israel, we have deeply revolted against You. We have wandered into the wilderness of sin, chasing after fleeting desires and momentary pleasures that distance us from Your peace. Our hearts, once soft and receptive to Your Spirit, have hardened with pride and arrogance, leading us astray from the paths of righteousness. With trembling hands and troubled hearts, we come, seeking to turn back to You, our Creator and Sustainer.
Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have placed our trust in ourselves or in the false securities of this world. We have looked to powers and entities that can never satisfy, believing that they could safeguard us in times of trouble. But You alone are our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of distress. We confess our reliance on earthly wisdom and strategies, forgetting that true wisdom comes from above, and truth and peace are found solely in You.
In humility, we receive Your call to return. We stand at the crossroads of our spiritual journey, where we must make a choice—a choice to forsake our sins and to walk back into the warm embrace of Your grace. Help us, dear Father, to recognize the areas in our lives where we have strayed. Shine Your divine light upon our hearts, illuminating the shadows of disobedience and revealing the brokenness within. May we not merely acknowledge our faults but be quick to forsake them, returning to You with heartfelt repentance.
As we turn unto You, Lord, we ask for a spirit of renewal. Revive our hearts and restore the joy of our salvation. In Your mercy, let the cleansing power of Your blood wash over us, purging us of all unrighteousness. Recreate in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. We long to be vessels of Your glory, reflecting Your love and grace to the world around us.
Father, grant us the strength to persevere in our faith as we journey back to You. The enemy seeks to distract and discourage us, reminding us of our past failures and shortcomings. Yet, we stand firm upon the promise of Your Word that says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). May this assurance fuel our resolve to turn back to You, trusting in Your unfailing love and abundant mercy.
We ask for Your wisdom to navigate the challenges that await us on this path of restoration. Equip us with the armor of faith, so we can resist the temptations that beckon us to retreat. Surround us with fellow believers who will encourage us as we strive to walk in Your ways, reminding us that we are not alone in our quest for holiness.
As we close this prayer, Lord, we commit ourselves into Your hands. We desire to be a true reflection of Christ's love, shining brightly in a world that desperately needs Your light. May our lives be testimonies of Your grace, declaring to others the joy of turning back to You. We thank You for Your unending patience and unwavering love, and we rejoice that You are always waiting with open arms for us to return. In the name of Jesus, our Redeemer and Friend, we pray. Amen.
