A Prayer of Confession and Renewal
"¶ Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts." - Isaiah 6:5

Heavenly Father,
In humility and reverence, I come before You today, echoing the anguished cry of Isaiah, "Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts" (Isaiah 6:5 KJV). Lord, I stand in awe of Your holiness, recognizing that in Your presence, my imperfections, my failures, and my sin become unavoidably clear.
Oh God, I acknowledge that I am not worthy to stand before You. The weight of my transgressions bears heavily upon me, and like Isaiah, I feel the need for cleansing and renewal. I admit that my words have often failed to reflect Your glory; too frequently, I have allowed my lips to speak in ways that do not honor You. I have whispered words of gossip, uttered complaints instead of praise, and engaged in conversations that tear down rather than build up. Forgive me, Father, for allowing my tongue to lead me astray and for expressing thoughts that are far from edifying.
As I reflect on Your greatness and power, I am reminded of Your infinite mercy and grace. You, who are seated on the throne in heaven, reign supreme over all creation. Your majesty is beyond my full comprehension. Like Isaiah, I have seen a glimpse of Your glory—when I witness the beauty of a sunset, the lushness of nature, or the love reflected in the eyes of another person, I see You, Lord. And yet, amidst such wonder, I am painfully aware of my shortcomings. I dwell in a world filled with strife, dishonesty, and sin, and I find myself conformed to behaviors and thoughts that do not align with Your will.
Help me, Father. Purify me with heavenly coal, just as the seraphim touched Isaiah’s lips with the live coal from the altar. Cleanse me of my impurities, and renew my spirit, that I may shine Your light brightly in a darkened world. Let each word I speak foster faith and encourage my brothers and sisters. Shape my speech to reflect kindness, compassion, and the truth of Your Word.
Lord, I also pray for those around me, my community that surrounds me, a people of unclean lips. We live in a society that often lifts falsehoods over truths and despair over hope. In this environment, let me be a beacon of Your light. Enable me to speak words of life into their situations. May I possess the courage to share Your message of redemption and grace, helping others to grasp the transformative power of Your love.
Holy One, revive in me a sense of urgency and a passion to reach out to those who are lost and broken. Let my heart break for what breaks Yours. Grant me vision to see the needs around me and wisdom to respond in love and humility. As I embrace my own brokenness, grant me the ability to meet others in theirs without judgment, pointing them lovingly to Your embrace.
In the wake of my acknowledgment of my unclean lips and the brokenness in the world around me, I surrender all that I am to You. I seek Your guidance as I strive to live a life that honors You. Empower my heart, cultivate in me an obedient spirit, and transform my words into vessels of Your truth. May I see Your hand in every moment, and may I always be willing to say "Here am I; send me" (Isaiah 6:8 KJV).
Lord, I desire to be a vessel of honor in Your great kingdom. Make me ready and willing to serve, to speak Your truth, and to be a reflection of Your unchanging love.
In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
