A Prayer for Strength Against Temptation
"But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." - James 1:14-15

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today with a humble heart, recognizing the weight of my own human frailty and the insidious nature of temptation that lurks in my soul. Your Word in James 1:14-15 reminds me that "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Lord, I acknowledge that it is often my own desires that lead me astray, and I seek Your divine guidance to resist and overcome these temptations that threaten to derail my spiritual journey.
O Lord, I pray for an awareness of my vulnerabilities. Open my eyes to see the moments when my flesh is enticed by desires that do not align with Your will. I ask for the wisdom to recognize these temptations as they approach, so that I may not be led away from the path of righteousness You have set before me.
Help me, dear Lord, to understand that temptation itself is not sin, but yielding to it leads to death. Grant me the strength to face temptation with the courage and boldness that comes from your grace. May I always remember that I am surrounded by Your love and power. When I feel the pull of my own lusts, may I turn to You for strength, remembering that You provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Father, I am often drawn away by lustful thoughts and desires. Protect my heart and mind from the enticements of a world that celebrates what is contrary to Your ways. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10). Help me to seek what is pure, lovely, and admirable, and to think on those things rather than entertaining thoughts that lead to sin.
As I navigate through life's challenges, I struggle against the flesh, which often seeks gratification apart from You. Teach me, dear Lord, to crucify those desires, to die to myself daily (Luke 9:23), and to submit my priorities, my plans, and my passions to You. Replace my lusts with a fervent desire for You, Your Word, and Your purpose for my life. Draw me into deeper intimacy with You, for in Your presence, there is fullness of joy and peace that this world cannot give.
I pray for discernment in all aspects of my life. Help me to distinguish between what is good and pleasing to You versus that which is seductive and harmful. Lead me to wise counsel, to brothers and sisters in faith who can uplift and support me in my journey of holiness. Lord, allow me to be accountable, that I may share my struggles and vulnerabilities with others who will encourage me to stay close to You.
When I fall short and give in to temptation, remind me of your abundant grace. Forgive me for those times when I have allowed lust to conceive within my heart, leading to sin. Let not that sin take root in my life, but help me to confess and repent, knowing that You are faithful and just to forgive me (1 John 1:9).
As I grow in my faith, may I continuously strive to reflect Your image and to honor You in all I do. Strengthen my resolve to seek after righteousness and holiness, that my life may be a testimony of Your transforming power. Help me to live daily in the light of Your truth, and to bring glory to Your name through every thought and action.
Thank You, Lord, for Your love and grace. I trust in Your promise to be with me as I face the trials of this life, and I lean on You in my pursuit of holiness. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.
In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
