A Prayer of Return and Purification

"Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them." - Jeremiah 15:19

"Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them." - Jeremiah 15:{verse.verse_number}

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you with humble hearts, recognizing the beauty and power of Your Word. You have spoken to us, Lord, through the words of Your prophet Jeremiah, saying, "Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them." (Jeremiah 15:19, KJV).

Lord, we acknowledge that life is filled with various paths, each influenced by our choices and the company we keep. There are times when we stray from Your ways, seduced by the lures of the world, the vile distractions that call us away from You. In our moments of weakness, we may find ourselves standing at the crossroads, unsure of which direction to take—whether to return to the embrace of Your grace or to linger in the harmful habits and associations that pull us down.

Father, as we read the promise embedded in this verse, we find hope. We thank You that in Your mercy, you declare that if we return to You, You will bring us back and restore us. What a beautiful assurance it is to know that no matter how far we may have wandered or how stubbornly we may have strayed, Your love welcomes us back into Your presence.

Lord, help us to earnestly return to You with genuine repentance. Remove any pride or reluctance from our hearts so that we may approach You with sincere humility. We desire to stand before You again, to be in Your presence where there is peace, where there is healing, and where we can learn and grow closer to You. As we draw near, cleanse us of our impurities. Wash us thoroughly, God, and help us to forsake the vices that have clouded our vision and our hearts.

In Your word, You remind us that we must take forth the precious from the vile. Lord, give us discernment and wisdom to identify what is precious in our lives—those things that align with Your will and purpose—and to part ways with the vile that corrupts our spirit. Help us to prioritize our relationship with You, recognizing that everything we possess or aspire to is meaningless without You at the center.

We long to be Your voice, Your mouthpiece to the world. Equip us, Lord, with the words of truth and love that we might share your essence with those around us. Prepare our hearts to cultivate relationships founded on faith and devotion, encouraging others to return unto You, not to the distractions of this world.

Lord, as we look out into our communities, let our hearts be burdened for those who have yet to return. We pray for those who have turned away, hoping they too will hear Your calling. Show us how we can be Your instruments, helping others to recognize the vile in their lives while gently guiding them toward the precious gifts of salvation and grace that You offer.

Give us strength and courage, dear Lord, not to return to the influenced paths of those who seek to lead us away from You. May we stand firm in our faith, unyielding to the pressures of a world that often acts contrary to Your commandments.

Ultimately, we seek to fulfill our purpose as Your children. We long to reflect Your love and light, to be ambassadors of Your Word in a world that desperately needs it. Empower us to be steadfast in our walk with You, always remembering the beautiful promise You give us: if we return, we shall stand before You.

We praise You, our Creator, Redeemer, and Friend, for Your unfailing love and for the assurance of Your presence in our lives. May we forever cherish the privilege of standing in communion with You.

In Jesus’ name, we pray,

Amen.
