A Prayer of Acknowledgment and Repentance
"Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD." - Jeremiah 3:13

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, humbly acknowledging our sins and transgressions, as reminded in Jeremiah 3:13, where You call us to “Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.” Lord, this powerful message serves as a mirror for us to reflect upon our lives, our choices, and our hearts. In humility and sincerity, we approach Your throne, seeking both forgiveness and a renewed commitment to walk in Your ways.
Father, we recognize that too often we stray from Your path. You have set before us the way of life, yet we find ourselves wandering, tempted by the allurements of the world. We have misplaced our trust and scattered our affections among the many distractions that vie for our attention. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have sought fulfillment under every green tree, giving in to worldly desires and neglecting the nourishing truth found solely in You. Lord, we confess that some of us may have sought comfort in places and relationships that do not glorify Your name, and we repent for having compromised our integrity for fleeting pleasures.
Thank You, Lord, for Your patience with us. Though we have often turned our backs and disregarded Your voice, You remain faithful, waiting for us to return to You. Today we choose to acknowledge our iniquities. We lay bare our hearts before You and plead for the cleansing blood of Jesus to wash over us. Help us to recognize the weight of our sinfulness, the ways we have fallen short of Your glory, and the hurt we may have caused ourselves and others along the way.
Lord, renew in us a spirit of obedience. Your voice calls out gently but firmly, beckoning us to return to the safety and security found in You. Give us ears to hear, so we do not ignore Your instruction; help us to discern Your will in our lives amidst the clamor of the world. Teach us to seek You first, to prioritize our relationship with You above all else, and to obey Your commandments wholeheartedly. We desire more than mere acknowledgment of our iniquities; we long for transformation, for deep repentance that leads to profound change in our lives.
As we embark on this journey of faith, instill in us a desire for righteousness. May Your word be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Fill our hearts with a longing to dwell in Your presence, to meditate on Your Word day and night, and to grow in a deeper understanding of who You are. We pray for the strength to resist temptation, to flee from those things that draw us away from You and your love. Replace our wandering hearts with steadfast spirits that cling to Your promises and hold fast to the hope we have in Christ.
We also seek to cultivate compassion and grace towards others. As we reflect on our own failings, grant us the wisdom to extend forgiveness to those who may have wronged us. May we be vessels of Your love and mercy, leading others back to You instead of pushing them away. Help us to reflect the light of Christ in such a manner that those around us are drawn to Your truth and salvation.
In closing, O Lord, we thank You for the gift of repentance and the promised restoration. Help us remember that as we acknowledge our iniquities, we also find the reassurance of Your love and grace. Let our lives henceforth be a testament to Your goodness, as we strive to walk in the path You have laid before us. We are wholly dependent on Your grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
