A Prayer for Divine Justice and Restoration
"As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein." - Jeremiah 50:40

O Sovereign Lord, the God of all creation, I come before You today with a heart laden with the weight of this world, seeking Your guidance and wisdom as I meditate upon Your sacred Word. In the Book of Jeremiah, specifically 50:40, You remind us of Your power and justice: "As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein."
O Lord, as I reflect on this profound truth, I acknowledge that You are a God who sees all and knows all. You are just and righteous, and Your judgments are true. We live in a time when the sins of our cities, our nations, and our very hearts lead us down paths of destruction—paths that echo the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah. I pray that You, O Lord, would not allow us to wander so far from Your ways that we become deserving of such a fate.
Father, I beseech You to examine our hearts and our land. In every corner of our cities, wickedness abounds. Violence, dishonesty, and immorality run rampant, and many hearts are hardened towards You. Just as You did not spare those cities of old, I ask for Your mercy to prevail upon us. Encourage us to turn from our sinful ways and towards You, so that we may experience Your grace and not Your wrath.
In Your divine wisdom, O God, You have the right to bring about judgment, yet Your desire is always for repentance, restoration, and reconciliation. I cry out for our communities and myself—help us to forsake the allure of sin and pursue righteousness. Stir within us a hunger for holiness and a thirst for Your presence. Let not our desires be for fleeting pleasures, but instead, let them be anchored in Your eternal truths.
Lord, I envision the remnants of Your faithful followers who are scattered in these cities, yearning for revival. May we be emboldened to stand against the tide of iniquity and to speak Your truth in love. May our voices rise up in unison, declaring the Gospel of Christ with boldness, so that others may be drawn to repentance.
Help us to be reminders of Your grace in the midst of judgment. Let us embody Your love, peace, and hope in a world crying out for healing. May our lives be a testament to the transformative power of the Gospel, shining brightly in darkness, a beacon of Your light guiding lost souls back to You.
As we witness the decline of morality and righteousness in our cities, I ask You to intervene, O Lord! Move in our midst through the wind of Your Spirit. Revive the hearts of the broken, the oppressed, and the hopeless. Let Your mighty hand heal our land according to Your promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Lord, we cannot disregard the consequences of sin, for Your Word is everlasting and does not return void. Just as the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah faced destruction due to their depravity, so too must we recognize that we are in desperate need of revival and restoration.
I pray for our leaders, that they may seek Your counsel rather than their own ambitions. May they be humbled and recognize their role as shepherds to their people, responsible before You for their decisions. Lead them to place equity and justice at the forefront of their governance.
Finally, O Lord, should judgment come, let it be a refining fire that draws us closer to You rather than a permanent separation from Your presence. Teach us to guage our walk with You daily, to seek forgiveness and grace, and to ensure that our cities are a reflection of Your kingdom here on Earth.
In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
