A Prayer for Humility and Divine Wisdom
"¶ Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:" - Jeremiah 9:23

O Eternal and Sovereign Lord,
In humble reverence, I come before Thy holy throne, seeking Thy face and yearning for a deeper understanding of Thy truth. As I meditate on the profound words of Jeremiah 9:23, I am reminded of the great importance of humility in our journey of faith. "Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches." These timeless words echo through the corridors of time, calling me to examine my heart and my aspirations.
Lord, I acknowledge that wisdom, might, and wealth are gifts that can come from Thy hand. Yet, too often, I find myself entangled in the snares of pride and self-sufficiency, believing that my achievements define my worth. Forgive me, O God, for moments when I have allowed my intellect to overshadow my faith, when I have relied on my strength rather than leaning on Thy everlasting arms. Grant me the wisdom to realize that true understanding is rooted in knowing Thee, the one true God, and that wisdom without humility is like a shadow without sunlight.
As I reflect on the concept of wisdom, I seek Thy guidance to enrich my mind and soul with knowledge that transforms, knowledge that draws me closer to Thee. Help me to embrace the reality that the wise shall be known not for their knowledge alone but for the depth of their relationship with Thee. Lead me to discover the treasures of wisdom that come from seeking Thy heart, that I may walk humbly in Thy ways.
Father, I also come before Thee regarding strength and might. In a world that often equates power with dominance and control, help me to remember that true strength lies in surrendering my will to Thine. Teach me that true might is found in servanthood, in lifting others up rather than pushing them down. May I find my strength not in accumulating accolades or seeking revenge, but in exhibiting grace and love, even when it is difficult.
Moreover, Lord, as I consider the abundance that riches can bring, I recognize the danger of allowing material wealth to dictate my happiness and self-worth. It is so easy to measure success by the standards of this world, to place my trust in fleeting treasures that decay and fade. Remind me, O Lord, that all that I have is a gift from You, to be managed wisely and generously. Help me to be a steward of my resources, embracing the call to share my blessings with those in need, and teaching my heart to find richness in relationships rather than possessions.
In every area of my life—be it my intellect, my strength, or my resources—I long to glorify Thee alone. May my greatest aspiration be to seek the Lord, to understand Thy tremendous love and mercy, and to reflect that light into the world around me. May I grow in humility and transformation, not desiring to lift myself up but rather to exalt Thee and the work of Thy kingdom.
Lord, I pray for those around me. May they also find their glory not in their accomplishments but in their connection to Thee. Let us remind each other of the importance of humility, fostering communities that encourage growth through dependence on Thy grace.
As I conclude this prayer, I surrender my ambitions, my pride, and my desires unto Thee. Fill me with a spirit of humility, illuminate my heart with the radiance of Thy wisdom, and grant me peace as I rest in the knowledge that my worth is found in being a child of the Most High God. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
