A Prayer for Discernment and Righteousness
"Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me." - Job 21:16

O Heavenly Father, Creator of the universe, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude and humility. I acknowledge Your sovereignty and righteousness that reign above all. In the chaos of this world, I am reminded of the wisdom in Your Word, particularly in the profound message found in Job 21:16: "Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me." Lord, as I reflect on this verse, I seek Your guidance and insight to discern the ways of righteousness compared to the ways of the wicked.
Father, I see around me a landscape filled with choices, where the allure of temporal pleasures often masks the underlying deception of wicked counsel. I am bombarded with voices that promise satisfaction and success, yet fall short of Your glory and truth. Help me, Father, to remember that true goodness does not reside in the hands of those who stray from Your path. May I not be tempted by the fleeting riches or the superficial benefits offered by those whose hearts are far from You.
As I traverse this life, I ask for discernment, O Lord. Help me to recognize the whispers of the wicked that seek to lead me astray. May Your Holy Spirit guide my heart and mind, so that I can distinguish between that which is good and that which is wicked. Shield me from the counsel that does not align with Your will, and lead me to righteous companionship that strengthens my faith and encourages me to walk in Your light.
Lord, I am reminded of those times when I have inadvertently listened to the counsel of the wicked. I confess that I have sometimes found myself swayed by persuasive arguments that appeared wise but ultimately led me away from You. Forgive me for those moments of weakness, and grant me the strength to reject any guidance that does not conform to Your holy teachings. May my heart grow steadfast in Your truth, free from the deceptions of this world.
As I strive to follow You, help me to recognize that true goodness comes from You alone. I pray for wisdom to understand that the gains that come from wickedness are temporal and hollow. May I anchor my hopes and dreams in Your promises, knowing that the path You have laid out for me is one of fulfillment and true purpose. Let the countenance of my life reflect Your glory and truth, so that I may attract others not to the counsel of the wicked, but to the light of Your grace.
Grant me the strength to stand firm in my convictions amidst peer pressure and societal expectations. May the counsel I receive be rooted in love, integrity, and righteousness. Surround me with wise counsel that leads me to You. Help me to be intentional in seeking out godly mentors, friends, and companions who uplift and inspire my journey toward holiness.
Lord, I also pray for those who may be deceived by the counsel of the wicked, those who have placed their trust in fleeting things. Shine Your light upon their path, and reveal to them the emptiness of their choices. May they come to understand that only You can provide true fulfillment and joy. Use me as an instrument of Your will, so that I may be a beacon of hope and truth in their lives.
Finally, I thank You, Lord, for Your unchanging nature. Your promises are true, and Your love endures forever. May I always cling to You, for in You is the wellspring of life. In every decision I make, may I seek You first, trusting that Your counsel will guide me safely home.
In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, I pray these things, believing in Your faithful responses to the prayers of Your children. Amen.
