A Prayer of Repentance and Restoration
"Yet even now, saith the Lord, turn ye unto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil." - Joel 2:12-13

O Lord, Most Gracious and Merciful God,
I come before You today, my heart heavy with the burdens of this world and the weight of my own shortcomings. For You have called me, as recorded in Joel 2:12-13, saying, "Yet even now, saith the Lord, turn ye unto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:". Father, I heed this call. I recognize this divine invitation, my heart stirred to seek Your face wholeheartedly, to turn from my ways and align my spirit with Your divine will.
Lord, I confess that I have often wandered from Your path of righteousness. I have allowed the demands and distractions of life to pull me away from the tender communion I once enjoyed with You. In moments of pride, I thought I could stand on my own, forgetting that it is Your grace that holds the world in balance. I have tasted the sweetness of Your presence and yet, in folly, I have misstepped. But I thank You for allowing even now, O God, for the opportunity to return.
I approach You today with fasting, a humble act of surrender. As I set aside physical nourishment, I ask that You fill me with spiritual sustenance. Teach my heart to hunger and thirst for righteousness. May my spiritual appetite be awakened, drawing me deeper into Your Word and into the depths of Your wisdom. Lord, may the hunger in my spirit be a reflection of the need I have for Your nearness, for it is only in You that my soul finds its true delight.
As I weep and mourn, may my tears be a cleansing balm for the stains of sin that weigh upon my spirit. Help me to feel the conviction of my actions, recognizing the separation they have caused between us. Make me sensitive to the ways I have missed the mark, and instill in me a heart that truly grieves for the disobedience that has led me astray. I take this moment to mourn the losses caused by my choices—relationships broken, opportunities lost, and the grieving impact of sin on my life and those around me.
You call us, O Lord, to rend our hearts and not our garments. Grant me the strength to look within and confront the areas that need Your healing touch. Strip away any masquerade that hides my true condition. Help me to humble myself before You; let nothing stand between us. I desire to present before You a heart that is open, raw, and vulnerable—offering You not just my outward actions but my inner being. Help me to embody the repentance that You desire—a transformation that flows from a sincere heart, not merely external displays of sorrow.
For You are gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, as Your Word reminds me. How can I fathom the depth of Your compassion? Despite my failures and unworthiness, You invite me back to the fold with arms wide open. As a loving Father, You do not condemn but rather beckon me to find shelter in Your grace. Your kindness overwhelms me, and I thank You for each loving act that draws me closer to You.
In Your perfect timing, You choose not to hold my sins against me. You even "repenteth him of the evil"—Your heart swells with mercy irrespective of the depth of my transgressions. This truth fills my heart with hope, for no harm that I have done is insurmountable for Your love. I lay before You every ounce of regret and ask for forgiveness, knowing that in Your presence, there is healing.
May this solemn encounter today lead to a renewed state of living for Your glory. I commit to pursuing a life characterized by sincerity and devotion. Empower me, through Your Spirit, to live in a way that reflects Your love and mercy. May I serve as a conduit of Your grace to others who may also seek the way back to You.
In Christ’s name, I pray, aligning my heart with Your divine purpose and seeking the fullness of joy that comes from being reunited with You. Amen.
