A Prayer for Justice and Compassion
"And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink." - Joel 3:3

O Gracious and Almighty God,
As I kneel before You today, I am reminded of the heart-wrenching words from the prophet Joel: "And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink." (Joel 3:3 KJV). These words echo a reality that is as relevant today as it was in biblical times. They speak to the injustices we see in our world, where the vulnerable are exploited and worth is measured in economic terms rather than human dignity.
Lord, I humbly come before You, recognizing the pain and suffering that this verse encapsulates. I confess that too often we witness the exploitation of the young and marginalized, children who are sold into servitude or subjected to the darkest vices of our society. You, O Lord, are the God of justice, and we ask for Your mercy upon the innocent who are caught in the web of greed and sin. We pray for those who have been cast aside like mere commodities, treated as objects of pleasure or profit, rather than individuals made in Your precious image.
Father, You have called us to love our neighbors, to care for the least of these, and to fight against oppression. Help us to take up the mantle of justice, to not turn our backs on those who suffer but to stand in solidarity with them. Ignite in us a passion for righteousness, that we may rise up as advocates for those whose voices have been silenced. May we be instruments of Your peace, bringing hope to the hopeless and light to the darkness.
We pray, Lord, for those children and young people who are being sold for wine and breathed into lives of harlotry. Each one is a creation of Your hands, yet they are being dehumanized and disregarded. We ask that You would intervene in their situations, sending forth Your angels to protect them, to rescue them from their captors. May the scales of injustice fall from the eyes of those who participate in this wrongdoing, and may they come to a profound understanding of the value of every soul and the heartache caused by their actions.
God of compassion, we pray for the communities engulfed in cycles of despair where such actions become normalized. Stir the hearts of leaders to recognize their responsibility to safeguard the vulnerable. Encourage them to create policies and environments that promote the well-being and rights of children, rather than exploit them. Grant wisdom and courage to those who wield influence, so they may enact change in their spheres of authority.
Furthermore, let us not neglect our own hearts. Help us to examine our own lives, to root out any complicity in the injustices faced by others. Teach us to be vigilant and discerning, so that we do not become indifferent or apathetic to the plight of those around us. Fill us with Your love that compels us to act, to speak out against injustice, and to reach out to help those in need.
In all things, Lord, we seek Your guidance and Your presence. We’re reminded of Your promise of restoration and hope amidst chaos and ruin. We cling to the truth that even from our darkest moments, You can bring forth beauty and revival. May we remain steadfast in prayer, seeking Your face and asking for Your divine intervention in the lives of those affected by such grievous sins.
Finally, we lift up our hearts in gratitude for the grace and salvation that You offer, knowing that though the world is marred by sin, Your power can redeem and restore. May we be a testament of Your redeeming love, shining Your light into the shadows of despair.
We ask all of these things in the name of our compassionate Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
