Awakening Faith Through the Power of Christ
"He saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well." - John 11:11-12

O Heavenly Father,
In the stillness of this moment, we come before You with hearts that long for understanding and faith. We stand in awe of Your Word, as it is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We are reminded of the profound encounter You had with Your disciples concerning Lazarus, a dear friend of Yours, captured in the sacred words of John 11:11-12: "He saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well."
Lord, we thank You for the lessons You impart through this scripture. We recognize that You see beyond our earthly limitations. You referred to Lazarus’ condition as sleep, a gentle reminder that our struggles and pains are not the end, but rather a transition into Your divine presence. In this moment, we ask You to help us comprehend the deeper meaning of sleep, as it relates to our trials and the hope that lies in waiting for Your miraculous touch.
We reflect on the words spoken by the disciples, encapsulating a human perspective that may often reflect our thoughts as well. How many times do we misinterpret Your intentions because our understanding is limited by our worldly perceptions? How often do we find ourselves in disbelief, questioning the necessity of Your actions, when all You wish is to awaken us to the beauty of Your works? Forgive us, Lord, for our doubt, and grant us the grace to see life through Your divine lens.
As we bring forth our own ‘Lazarus’ situations—those dreams that have died, relationships that feel hopeless, or health battles that seem insurmountable—we lay them at Your feet. Teach us, Holy Spirit, to wait patiently in the silence, to trust in Your timing, and to acknowledge that what appears to be an end may just be a profound beginning orchestrated by Your hand.
Lord Jesus, You spoke to the disciples with authority and clarity, saying, \"I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.\" In this declaration lies the power of resurrection and revival. We humbly ask that You awaken us from our spiritual slumber. Revive our passion for You, our love for others, and our fervor in the face of challenges. May we not shy away from proclaiming faith in the darkness, but instead, as I look upon the horizon of our struggles, may our hearts echo the assurance of Your victory.
Help us to understand that when we face situations that seem hopeless, You are not merely an observer but an active participant in our life’s journey. As You approached the tomb of Lazarus, we know that You approach ours too—You see our pain and You are moved by it. Remind us that true life is found in You, that even death is under Your authority, and that there is no situation so far gone that You cannot redeem it.
We pray for all who feel as though they are in a tomb—buried under the weight of grief, loss, or despair. Just as You called Lazarus from the grave, call forth new life in us. We plead, Lord, to breathe Your Spirit into our dried bones and refresh us with Your living water, so we may vibrantly proclaim Your goodness.
Let us take courage from the biblical narrative, that even though the disciples initially failed to grasp Your words, they remained in your presence, learning from You. Help us to stay close to You, O Lord, as we journey through our moments of doubt and confusion. Grant us the strength to trust in what we cannot yet see and to rejoice in the hope of resurrection that You promise to all who believe.
In all things, may we submit ourselves into Your care. May we rise as ambassadors of hope, filled with Your light, declaring that even in sleep, the potential for awakening is within reach, for You are our God of miracles and life eternal.
In the powerful name of Jesus, we pray.
Amen.
