A Prayer of Sorrow and Hope: Inspired by John 20:11
"¶ But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre," - John 20:11

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today, humbled and seeking Your presence. As I reflect upon the poignant scene from John 20:11, I am reminded of Mary who stood without at the sepulcher, weeping bitterly for her lost Savior.
Lord, I lift my voice in prayer, much like Mary did in her sorrow. In our lives, there are moments of deep despair, times when our hearts cry out in grief and sorrow. I recognize that we often stand at the sepulchers of our own despair, mourning the losses we have experienced, whether they be loved ones, dreams, or parts of ourselves that we once held dear.
Mary, in her mourning, felt the深深的 emptiness of loss. She faced the cold stone of the tomb, the symbol of death and finality. Father, I ask that You draw close to us in our moments of mourning. May we find solace in Your embrace when we weep, just as Mary did. Help us to remember that it is okay to grieve, to feel the weight of our sorrow, and to seek Your comfort in our darkest hours.
As Mary stood weeping, she displayed a raw and authentic faith, one that knows the depth of pain yet longs for hope. Father, I pray that You instill in us that same authenticity in our faith. Help us to bring our uncertainties and sadness before You without pretense. Teach us that in our weeping, we can still seek You, and that You are near to the brokenhearted.
When Mary stooped down and looked into the sepulcher, she yearned for something more than the grave left behind. Teach us to look beyond the sorrow, beyond the tombs of our lives, and to seek the hope that lies in You. For just as Mary witnessed the angelic beings, may our spiritual eyes be opened to see the divine consolation that is often hidden from our sight due to our grief.
God, I cry out for a revelation in our mourning. In times of deep sorrow, grant us glimpses of Your glory, those moments that remind us that death does not have the final word. Help us to store up memories of joy, of love, and of hope amidst our tears. Just as Mary encountered the resurrected Christ, help us to recognize Your presence in our circumstances. Equip us with a spirit of expectation, knowing that You work miracles in our despair.
May Mary’s tears not be forgotten but serve as a reminder to us that while we mourn, we do not mourn as those who are without hope. In our sorrow, let us remember the promise of resurrection, the promise of new life that swells from the ashes of our grief. Lord, when we weep, let it lead us to a deeper understanding of Your compassion and love. Just as Mary experienced the joy of seeing her Savior alive, may we look forward with hope, knowing that joy comes in the morning.
I pray for all who stand at the sepulchers of despair today. May we all lean into our sorrow and allow it to draw us closer to You. Let us cast our burdens upon You, for we know that You care for us and desire to replace our mourning with joy.
Thank You, Lord, for holding our tears in Your bottle as a testimony of Your love. Thank You for being the resurrection and the life, for making all things new. Guide us to trust in Your promises, to remember the miracle of resurrection, and to keep seeking You even when we feel lost in our sorrow.
In the name of Jesus, who conquered death and brings us hope, I pray.
Amen.

And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou?
