Come and Dine: A Prayer of Fellowship with the Lord
"Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord." - John 21:12

O Heavenly Father, Lord God, Creator of all that is seen and unseen, I come before You in humble adoration, echoing the profound invitation found in John 21:12, where our Lord Jesus Christ beckons His disciples, saying, "Come and dine." What a privilege it is to respond to this divine call! Today, I seek to understand the depth of this invitation and to embody the spirit of fellowship You desire for us as Your children.
Lord, help me to recognize the significance of sitting at Your table. In a world filled with distractions and demands, I often forget the simple yet profound joy of communing with You. Jesus, Your invitation to dine is not just about food or drink; it embodies a relationship of love, trust, and intimacy. May I approach Your table with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit eager for fellowship. Teach me to be aware of Your presence in every meal, every gathering, and every simple moment where I can connect with You.
As I reflect on the disciples who gathered at the shore, I am reminded of their anxiety and uncertainty. "And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord." O Lord, just like those disciples, there are moments in my life where fear and doubt cloud my vision. When You are so near, and yet I feel distant, grant me the courage to recognize Your voice and presence in my life. Help me to cast aside my apprehensions and come to You openly, trusting in the assurance that You are indeed my Savior.
Father, I acknowledge that there are times when my faith wavers in the face of trials. Just like the disciples who recognized You but were fearful to approach, I sometimes hesitate to seek You in my struggles. Forgive me, Lord, for allowing fear to overshadow my faith. Now, I ask for the boldness to step forward to Your presence, to partake in the feast You have prepared for me. You invite the weary and burdened to come and find rest, and I want to lay my burdens before You today.
Thank You for being the God who meets us in our need, who calls us tenderly to draw near. May I always remember that You invite me to share not only in the physical sustenance but in the spiritual nourishment that only You can provide. Let my heart be ever ready to accept Your invitation to dine, regardless of the circumstances surrounding me. Enable me to cultivate a deeper hunger for Your Word, Your wisdom, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, I ask that You would deepen my understanding of community and fellowship among my brothers and sisters in Christ. Just as the disciples gathered around You, may we too come together in unity, breaking bread and sharing our lives. Teach us the beauty of hospitality, the grace of openness, and the joy of shared experiences. Let our gatherings be filled with love, laughter, encouragement, and the affirmation of Your truth.
As I close this prayer, I hold fast to Your words, Savior. Help me to always respond joyfully to Your call to "Come and dine." May my life be a testament to the richness of Your grace and the abundance of Your love. I thank You, Lord, for the promise that when I draw near to You, You will draw near to me. I embrace this invitation, Lord; may I feast on Your goodness today and every day. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
