A Prayer for Devotion and Service

"He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep." - John 21:16

"He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep." - John 21:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

In the quietness of my heart, I come before You today, fully aware of Your love and grace that envelops my life. I reflect upon the poignant words spoken by Jesus to Simon Peter, captured in John 21:16, which reads, "He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep." These words resonate deeply within me, prompting me to examine the fabric of my faith and the depths of my commitment to You.

Lord, You know all things. You know the moments when my heart has faltered, the times when I’ve been distracted by the cares of this world, and the instances when my devotion was tested. Like Peter, I sometimes struggle to express the depth of my love for You fully. Yet, here I stand, confessing my love and my desire to follow You faithfully.

I pray, Father, that You will ignite a fervent love in my spirit, one that mirrors the love that Peter expressed to You. Help me to understand the essence of Your question, "Lovest thou me?" May it not only echo in my mind but resonate in my daily life. Let my love for You be reflected in my actions, my words, and my service to others. I wish to reply, as Peter did, with genuine assurance, "Yes, Lord, Thou knowest that I love thee!"

As we navigate this journey of faith together, remind me, O Lord, that loving You goes beyond mere acknowledgment; it calls for action. When You instructed Peter to "feed my sheep," You were commissioning him to nurture and care for those who belong to You. Speak to my heart today, calling me to serve and support those around me. Show me the ways I can feed the hungry for both physical and spiritual nourishment.

Guide my hands in service, Lord. Teach me how to be a steward of Your love, bridging the gap for those who may feel lost or forgotten. Open my eyes to the needs around me—whether they are my friends, family or strangers in my community. Help me to care deeply for them as You care for me, extending compassion, kindness, and hope.

May I be fueled by the love that emanates from You, so I can pour that same love into every interaction I have. Remind me that the love I exhibit towards others is a reflection of my love for You. Let my acts of service not be burdensome but driven by the joy of obedience to Your command. Teach me to be selfless, considering others’ needs before my own, and to actively engage in the life of my church and community.

I ask for forgiveness, Lord, for the times I missed opportunities to show Your love through my actions. Help me to be vigilant in my devotion to You and to always be attentive to the essence of Your call. Let Your Holy Spirit guide me, emboldening me to step out of my comfort zone to fulfill the great commission to "feed Your sheep."

Above all else, Lord, I desire to know You more deeply. I pray for an intimate relationship with You, where I can hear Your voice guiding me at every moment. May I always be willing to listen for Your call, as You solicit my heart with the question, “Lovest thou me?” Lord, I love You, truly and deeply, and I want the world to see that love through my life.

In closing, I thank You for Your patience and Your continual call to serve. I commit my heart, my life, and my service to You, knowing that in doing so, I am loving You as You have called me to love. In the name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen.
