A Prayer of Confession and Restoration

"Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff." - Joshua 7:11

"Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff." - Joshua 7:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, I approach Your throne of grace with a heart full of humility and recognition of my own shortcomings. Your Word in Joshua 7:11 resonates deeply within me, stating, "Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff." Lord, just as the people of Israel faced the consequences of their sin and disobedience to Your commandments, I know that I too have strayed from Your path at times. I confess that I have not always prioritized our covenant relationship, nor upheld Your precepts in my heart and life.

Lord, I acknowledge that I live in a world filled with temptations and distractions, where it is all too easy to be drawn away from Your truth. I often find myself gravitating towards the accursed things—those beliefs, behaviors, and influences that conflict with Your Word. I have allowed these corrupting forces to take root in my life and, at times, I have placed them among my own possessions, treating them as if they were worthy things. Forgive me, O Lord, for the moments when I have chosen my will over Yours, when I have let my guard down against the enemy’s subtle lies.

In this moment, I ask for Your mercy. Your love surpasses all understanding, and I know that You welcome the repentant heart. Help me to truly understand the weight of the covenant I have with You, recognizing that it is not a light matter. The Israelites faced defeat and despair due to their sin, and I do not wish to follow a similar path. Help me to grasp the gravity of how my choices impact my walk with You, as well as those I love. May I not forget that my actions carry significance and have consequences that extend beyond my own life.

Lord, I desire to surrender those accursed things in my life. I pray for the courage to identify and remove any remnant of sin that dwells within me. Shine Your divine light into the dark corners of my heart, illuminating areas that need cleansing. I long to empty myself of iniquity and be filled with Your Spirit. Encourage me, Father, as I strive to distance myself from what is unholy and to cling to what is good, pure, and acceptable in Your sight.

Father, I desire restoration in my soul. Just as You offered mercy and forgiveness to Israel after acknowledging their sin, I also seek that redemptive grace over my life. I ask that You renew my spirit and strengthen my resolve to live in a manner that honors You. Help me to build up my defenses against the lies that tempt me to steal from that which is Yours, to take what is accursed, and to be led astray from Your commandments.

I pray for accountability in my life, for a community that uplifts and challenges me towards holiness. Surround me with friends and mentors who will encourage my faith journey and help me to remain steadfast in my commitment to You. Keep my heart open to constructive criticism, that I may grow and mature in the faith and no longer walk in my own understanding, but in Yours.

As I draw nearer to You, may I find delight in Your laws and commandments. Let my heart be aligned with Your will, taking joy in living out Your purpose for my life. Help me to remember that true fulfillment is not found in the things of this world but in a vibrant, intimate relationship with You.

Thank You, dear Lord, for hearing my prayer. I trust in Your faithful promises. May I rise each day empowered by Your grace, walking in the freedom that comes from true repentance and a restored covenant with You.

In the precious name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen.
