A Prayer for Divine Courage and Secrecy
"Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them." - Judges 3:23

Heavenly Father,
In the solemnity of this hour, I come before You, inspired by the narrative of Ehud, whose actions speak to the depths of courage and storied purpose revealed in Judges 3:23: "Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them." As I meditate upon this verse, I recognize the profound truths embedded in what it means to step away from our comfort zones, to confine our fears, and to embrace the missions You have set before us.
Lord, I thank You for the example of Ehud, a man who was an instrument of deliverance for his people. Help me to mirror his bravery and conviction. Grant me the discernment to recognize the moments when I must lock the doors to distraction, fear, and doubt, just as Ehud locked away the distractions of the world around him. As he prepared himself in secret, may I also seek to hide away in You—to cast all my burdens at Your feet before I face the choices before me.
In this distraught world, where noise and insecurity often reign, I pray for the strength to shut out that which hinders my progress and clouds my vision. Father, give me the wisdom to choose solitude when it’s needed, to step aside and shut the doors so that I may focus solely on You and Your guidance. May I honor the words of the Psalmist who instructed us: "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). Teach me to find peace and clarity in moments of quiet reflection, so that I can better hear Your voice amidst the chaos.
For I know, dear Lord, that behind those closed doors lies opportunity—the opportunity to prepare, to pray, to receive revelation and power from Your Holy Spirit. I pray that You fill those closed spaces with Your presence. In those moments of retreat, may the whispers of wisdom drown out all fear, and may I emerge prepared for action, emboldened to fulfill the purpose laid before me.
I ask that You mold me into a vessel of Your will. Just as Ehud had a brave and determined heart, instill within me the spirit of a warrior. Let me not be swayed by the adversities I face but instead encourage within me a courage that draws deeply from my faith in You. Remind me, Lord, to pray for strength not only to walk through the challenges but also to identify the doors I need to shut behind me—those doors leading to doubt, negativity, and the words of others that might tear me down instead of lifting me up.
When the time comes for me to step out into the world from behind those closed doors, prepare my heart and my mind for the battles ahead. Let me be a source of hope and encouragement to those around me, just as Ehud stepped forward to deliver his people from oppression. Empower me to speak truth, to act with righteousness, and to carry Your love into every situation I face.
May this prayer fortify my spirit as I remember that the acknowledgment of my limitations opens the door for Your divine strength to fill the void. Help me, Lord, to rely on You completely, for it is in my weakness that Your strength is made perfect.
As I conclude this prayer, I thank You for the promise that You will accompany me through every challenge that lies ahead. I trust that every door I lock to protect my purpose will open to a greater calling in alignment with Your will. Let me go forth, like Ehud, with steadfast resolve and unwavering faith.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
